It's that time of year! Our annual Good Tidings to Teens event, where we help spread holiday cheer to teens in need. This year, we're making Christmas special for 30 students who successfully completed Project Positive. Many thanks to Methodist Richardson Medical Center for sponsoring this special project! We're accepting donations until December 15th!

This Giving Tuesday, MC Criminal Law is proud to support The Counseling Place and its life-changing Project Positive Diversion Program.

Messina and Debbie, Executive Director of The Counseling Place, go way back — and when we learned more about Project Positive, we knew it aligned perfectly with our values and with what we hope for the young people who come through our doors.

Project Positive doesn’t just “check a box.” Classes are personalized for each student — instructors learn each child’s goals, dreams, interests, and struggles. Many participants are overcoming trauma, food insecurity, or difficult home environments. Some have credited the program with helping them stay in school, graduate, and even pursue college and careers (including nursing school!).

Project Positive is a 5-Week mental health education course that helps teens build healthy habits and relationships. Students learn to recognize and manage the things that trigger big emotions, and they experience how practicing gratitude improves their brains. The course is customized for each student, so the techniques they learn can be applied to their unique situations. 💚

We run a tight ship, with only one full-time admin person (our executive director) and a part-time business manager (who had a career as a forensic accountant). The rest of our team members provide therapy, victim advocacy, case management, and education courses to our clients. When you donate on NTGD (or any day), your dollars are going to services. 💚

Only 1% of the 300+ family violence victims we serve seek assistance from a shelter. Many are professionals (medical, insurance, travel) who refuse to flee their homes and disrupt the lives of their children. Nonetheless, they need support, and The Counseling Place provides it. With free professional therapy, case management, psychoeducation, and advocacy for parents and children, we help survivors remain independent and live abuse-free lives.

Project Positive at the Library is in full swing!
Our students consistently report that learning the parts of the brain and the nervous system is their favorite activity. The activities are fun, and the information is empowering!
