If you're a cottage food producer, we want to hear from you! H.401 - a bill pertaining to the cottage food income threshold - has made the crossover deadline, and therefore could be passed into law this year! To inform our advocacy on H.401 and other legislation which may affect cottage foods producers and eaters, and grow our understanding of these businesses and their needs, we are conducting a survey for cottage foods producers. Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts and experiences!

Find more info and the survey here:

Governor Scott has proposed eliminating universal school meals, leaving tens of thousands of students without guaranteed access to the food they need to learn and succeed. This rollback is hidden in his budget under the guise of “Education Transformation” — but this program has been a resounding success, ensuring that every student, regardless of income, has access to breakfast and lunch. It has reduced stigma, increased participation in school meals, saved families money, and strengthened Vermont’s local food system—all while costing less than 1% of the state’s education fund.

We need you to take action NOW. Visit hungerfreevt.org/protect-universal-school-meals to learn more and take action today! This is a critical moment. Let’s make sure Vermont keeps our commitment to our kids.

Yesterday, the White House released a concerning memo calling for a pause on all federal grants and contracts, and a review of activities including, but not limited to, “financial assistance for foreign aid, nongovernmental organizations, DEI, woke gender ideology, and the green new deal.” As of this evening, the attempted action has been temporarily blocked by a federal judge.

NOFA-VT provides federally-funded services that support hundreds of Vermont farms and all who depend on them, and we are receiving confusing, at times contradictory, information about how the memo’s demands may be carried out.

Regardless of the chaos surrounding the memo and its potential implications, we remain committed to building an economically viable, ecologically sound, and socially just Vermont agricultural system with our members. We’re continuing our work and standing in solidarity with our many partners aiming for a thriving future while gathering more information as it emerges. We’ll share pertinent updates as we have them.

Together, onward.
