The perioperative staff nurse is a registered professional nurse (RN) responsible for providing nursing assessment and initiating nursing care to patients, pediatric through geriatric, having surgery or outpatient procedures. Congratulations to our Volunteer of the Month, Diane Delgado!

Diane has been a resident of Richland Center for almost five years. She has been volunteering on the Spiritual Care Team as a chaplain for a year and a half and at the Information Desk for six months. She lived most of her adult life in California and spent three years in Texas before relocating to Richland Center.

When she moved to the area, she worked with a friend to start the Caring Hands ministry at their church. This is where Diane was introduced to the opportunity of becoming a member of the ministerial community and a chaplain for TRHC.

When discussing her experience volunteering with us, Diane said, “I have always felt it was God’s plan for me to care for the sick and elderly, which led me to volunteer and to give back to this community. I feel gratitude and support from the community and look forward to continuing to serve the patients, staff, and community of TRHC.”

"Most people infected with measles experience a high fever, cough, and an unmistakable splotchy red rash," says Jenna Taylor, APNP with Muscoda Health Center. "Like polio and hepatitis B, there is no specific treatment for measles, and complications from the disease can get quite serious. Immunizations are so important," she continues.

One in five unvaccinated people who get infected will end up in the hospital, most commonly because of pneumonia. About one in 1,000 infected children will die, and another one in 1,000 will develop acute brain swelling, or encephalitis, which can occur up to months after infection and can lead to permanent brain damage. The Richland Hospital and Clinics wants you to help stop measles from becoming a threat. Make sure you and your children are up to date on vaccinations. Call your provider or clinic to schedule an appointment.

We asked a few of our fantastic front desk crew (known around here as Patient Access) to spotlight three common questions they hear. Maybe you’ve wondered about these, too.

1. When I pre-register on the Health Portal, do I still need to check in at the front desk? Yes. And please have those insurance cards ready. It only takes a second to verify and avoid any possible mistakes. Details are important to us.

2. Do I really need to check in 15 minutes before my appointment? It’s helpful, yes. You never know how much of a line will be ahead of you. It’s always good to check your vitals when you’re not rushed, too.

3. What if my parent needs an interpreter? We’ll make sure interpretive services are available for their appointment. Just let us know!

Did you know donor breast milk can be a lifesaving resource for premature and medically fragile infants? At the Richland Hospital and Clinics Birth Center, we proudly support the use of safe, screened donor milk through our partnership with The Mother’s Milk Bank. This is a vital option when a parent’s own milk is unavailable. “When someone drops off milk to donate, it is sent to the Milk Bank. We keep donor milk here from The Mother’s Milk Bank so we know it’s safe,” says Tracy Brownlee, Lactation Consultant and Birth Center Director. “The Mother’s Milk Bank will also pick up a donation from the donor’s home if they prefer,” she says.
