This month we are proud to shine our resident spotlight on Ilene Jones, who just celebrated her 102nd birthday on the 3rd of Septemberāand truly she doesnāt look a day over 70!
Ilene was born in Harris, Missouri, and grew up both there and in nearby Milan. Her childhood was a blend of small-town life and days spent on the family farm. As the middle of three sisters, she learned early on the value of family and hard work. She had a special fondness for her home economics class, and one of her favorite memories from school was performing in her senior play.
After high school, Ilene pursued her passion for business by attending a business college in Missouri. In 1943, she got married, and the two moved to Kansas City to begin their life together. Later, they relocated to Pasadena, Texas, where they would raise their family and build a full and loving life.
Ilene and her husband had three childrenātwo boys and one girlāwho went on to bless them with eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Family has always been at the heart of Ileneās life.
Deeply rooted in her church community, Ilene was an active and beloved member. She found joy in her garden, tending to her sunroom filled with plants, especially her cherished orchids. She also had a creative sideāquilting was one of her favorite pastimes, and she was once part of a quilting group. A lover of books, sheās always been an avid reader.
One of Ileneās greatest joys was traveling with her husband on his business trips. She has fond memories of many destinations, but especially loved visiting Europe. And for anyone who ever had the pleasure of tasting her chocolate chip cookiesāthey know they were simply the best.
With a sharp mind, warm heart, and inspiring life story, Ilene continues to bring light to our community. Weāre so honored to celebrate her this month. āŗļø
