Reinforce their efforts and successes by encouraging excellence.

Note I did not say perfection. Perfection (as it gets tossed around today) is more harmful than good when in the wrong mouth. Worldly perfection is partnered with condemnation and is nothing short of destructive. Who seeks to kill, steal and destroy? You already know. However, excellence is the effort towards perfection that is accompanied by grace.

A number of years ago my youngest daughter opted not to take Spanish in high school but rather she chose French. What a unique delight to us to see her step out and put her most excellent effort into learning a language that no one else in our home had even thought of. Seeing her practice writing and hearing her words become clear in French was a blessing and an example to us all. Seeing the language show up around the house was a particular joy to me in its beauty and one we cherish .
