Nick Miller, registered nurse in our Clinical Decision Department, is the latest recipient of the DAISY award at Kadlec.
The person who nominated him wrote:
"A cheerful and genuine 'good morning' before I even got to the registration desk and a smile that eased my tension about what came next. He got me all settled, joking and being very comforting. He had no idea what I'd been through. He is just very, very good at his job and has the right personality for his profession.
When it came time to do the IV, I was anxious. He got the IV going on the first try with very little pain and was talking and joking to distract me from the evil IV being inserted into my scarred up, tired and angry vein! I barely noticed what he was doing. He hooked up the iron, got me cozy in a warm blanket, dimmed the lights, offered me water and left me to rest. Knowingly or unknowingly, he calmed me to the point I fell asleep during the infusion.
He is a kind and gentle man who made me feel like a valued patient, not just a 'date of birth'. He checked on me and sat and talked to me about his family. I believe it was his way of being human and continuing to distract me and I appreciated it very much. The time flew by and before I knew it, I was done.β
Congratulations, Nick! π π
