November 1st is national brush day -- also known as the day after Halloween! We're sure that there's some pretty good loot sitting around your house after trick or treating. This is your friendly reminder to brush for at least 2 minutes 2x a day, and floss!

It's almost Halloween! Don't be haunted by cavities this year...here are a few tips to help your little boys and ghouls enjoy the holiday! 🎃

1. IF IT IS STICKY BE PICKY
Sticky candy is one of the worst types of candy for your teeth. Sticky candy is typically harder to remove leading it to stay on your teeth longer. This gives cavity-causing bacteria more time to work.

2. BE CAUTIOUS OF HARD CANDIES
We typically keep hard candies in our mouths longer. This allows for the sugars from the candy to wash around our teeth for an extended amount of time. Also, please don't try to bite down on hard candy. This can break your teeth!

3. PASS ON THE PUCKER
Sour candies are typically coated in sugar and highly acidic. Acid can breakdown the hard exterior shell of your teeth and lead to cavities.

4. CHOCOLATE IS BEST
Chocolate is one of the easiest candies to get off of your teeth. Dark chocolate is especially recommended since it is lower in sugar than milk chocolate.

5. ENJOY!
You can have your candy and eat it too! Just remember these tips to help protect your teeth. As always, be sure to brush and floss two times a day!

1 in 8 women in the United States will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. The good news is that most women can fully recover if detected early! With October being breast cancer awareness month, we would like to show our support and help spread awareness. Check out our local Tri-Cities Cancer Center for more information.

October is national dental hygiene month. Here are some tips from our AMAZING hygienists to keep your teeth shiny and healthy!

1. BRUSH - 2 minutes 2 times per day! Set a 2 minute timer, or try a dental app to make brushing more fun & effective. Some examples for kiddos are: Disney Magic Time or My Bright Smile! Encourage your child (and yourself) to keep up the good work each time they successfully brush for 2 minutes.

2. FLOSS - Floss between all teeth that touch. Make this a habit with your little ones too so they grow up adopting the habit. You should start flossing your baby’s teeth as soon as they erupt by using traditional floss or flossers with handles.

3. VISIT - See us for a dental check up every 6 months! Dental visits should begin by your baby’s 1st birthday. Our doctors will discuss important oral health care tips even at a young age.

As a Halloween season reminder, try to avoid giving your child gummy and sticky candies as they are top cavity causers.

Childhood Cancer Awareness is part of September and is a gold ribbon. The Tri-Cities Cancer Center Foundation supports this by supplying Superhero Sacks (Usually food and gas cards, and extra special items pertinent to the child) and by partnering with Forever Fighters, a non-profit organization that delivers personalized care packages to children and teen cancer patients, as well as providing support to survivors!
