Winifred “Winnie” Harris Patterson, 92, of Lumpkin, Georgia, passed away on August 15, 2025, at the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, in Americus, Georgia. Winnie was born on November 18, 1932, in Green Pond, Alabama, to the late Gerald Elisha Harris and the late Serna Tumblinson Harris.

Winnie is preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband, Olin W. Patterson, Jr.; two sons, J. C. Patterson, Pat Patterson; her grandson, Richard Patterson; all of her brothers and her sister.

She is survived by two sons, Charles Patterson, Frederick Patterson; three granddaughters, Jennifer Culpepper, Molly Le, Katie Smith; two great- granddaughters, Scarlett James, Annabella Culpepper; and one great-grandson, Jace Culpepper.

As a faithful and devoted member of the Lumpkin United Methodist Church, Winnie taught the Adult Sunday School class for numerous years. She served as President of the Women’s Circle. Winnie was a Lay Member for several Church Conferences, traveling to Macon, Savannah and Columbus. She was a faithful member of the Bible Study Class at Shady Grove Baptist Church.

Being an avid bridge player, she was always ready with her cards and snacks. She loved music especially Beethoven Symphonies. She was very active in the community, whether it was through the churches, bank, library or cancer events. Winnie loved reading and her favorite book was, To Kill A Mocking Bird. She enjoyed baking pecan pies and giving them as gifts during the Christmas season. She loved to travel and always had her bags packed and ready for another adventure. With Winnie, it was always a memorable trip.

Her knowledge, wit, kindness, love of God, and unwavering love for her family and friends will be dearly missed. Winnie blessed each of our lives, and especially loved her grands and great-grands. Oh, yes, Winnie was a die-hard Georgia Fan!! She was she quick to remind people that Georgia was number one and had the records to prove it!

Many of Winnie’s friends remember her “incident”, while working on Ft. Benning. A person came in and told her a tank had run over her car and totaled it! Another time, a person was talking about wanting to ride in a helicopter. Winnie casually said she was moved around the base sometimes in a helicopter, to get her there quickly! You never knew what would happen with Winnie, nothing much bothered her but elections and Georgia games!

Winnie was retired, with more than 20 years, from Fort Benning, where many think she ran the fort! She went on to retire from Farmer’s State Bank and the Lumpkin Library.

Evelyn "Lynne" A. Lane, 75, passed away at Columbus Hospice on July 31, 2025. She was born on May 6, 1950, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late John Hutwagner and Marie Hutwagner.

Lynne is survived by her partner, H. "Bubba" Hassani of Columbus, Georgia, her two daughters, Charlotte Lynn Lane of North Augusta, South Carolina and Amy Lane Ammons of Columbus, Georgia; four grandchildren, Morgan Paige Barker, Alexandria "Alle" Terese Barker, Mya Lane Ammons, Beau Hayden Ammons, and two great granddaughters, Vera Lynn Owens and Juniper Sage Barker.

Lynne grew up in Philadelphia and attended an all girls’ Catholic school. After her graduation from high school, she came to Lumpkin, Georgia to visit her brother, Jack, and met Lawrence Lane. They married and had two daughters, Charlotte and Amy. While living in Lumpkin she started a daycare in her home. Around 1979 or 1980, Lawrence and Lynne moved their family to Columbus, Georgia. While Lawrence worked out of town on the railroad (CSX), Lynne started attending Columbus College in pursuit of an Early Childhood Education degree. Amy said she remembers many good times going to the college daycare and to the library with her mom while she did research. Upon graduation, she secured a job as a 4th grade teacher at Carver Elementary School in Columbus, Georgia.

Shortly after graduation, around 1983-84, she and Lawrence divorced and she remained in Columbus. Lawrence moved to South Carolina and remarried. Lynne met H. Hassani, lovingly called "Bubba", and they were together through thick and thin. While Lynne was in the hospital, then hospice, Bubba stayed with her every night until her passing on July 31. Lynne truly loved all her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and Bubba was a big part of all of their lives. Lynne had fun taking them to the beach as she loved the ocean. Lynne also loved nature. She fed the birds and never minded the squirrels eating the bird food. All of her family remembers giggling about how chunky the squirrels and chipmunks were in her yard. Lynne planted flowers to attract butterflies, hummingbirds and honey bees. Lynne volunteered for the Humane Society and took dogs and cats to the patients at West Central in order for them to receive pet therapy. This is how she and Bubba ended up adopting, a 13 year old cat, Mema. Lynne felt terrible for the cat, the owner passed away and the owner's daughter surrendered Mema to the Humane Society. She did not have the heart to leave this aging cat there and Mema lived out the rest of her life being loved and cared for by Lynne and Bubba.
The legacy she leaves behind is one of resilience, determination to overcome obstacles, endurance, and her family will remember the love she shared with their Bubba.
