It's blackberry season in the Pacific Northwest! We found these on our walk today alongside the road.

Blackberries are rich in antioxidants and in fiber. They are a purple food which is rich in anthocyanin. Studies have linked anthocyanin-rich foods, particularly berries, to improved memory, cognition, and overall neurological health.

Yes! Why is this client seeing results? Because we worked to rehabilitate her metabolism. Years and years of chronic dieting takes a toll on our bodies physiologically and metabolically. By systematically adding in more carbs and increasing her energy intake, her hormones are balancing and her body is losing fat once again.

I'm kicking off fall with ideas on staying nourished during September. September is often treated like "second January"--as kids head back to school, commitments ramp up and the season changes, it's not uncommon to reset and reevaluate the goals and intentions that were set in January (remember those??).

Beginning September 1, I'll be sharing recipes, tips and tricks to help you stay on track with your health and wellness goals whether you are headed back to the classroom or just needing to reset for the next 3 months.

Nothing fancy, no lists (unless it's a grocery list!). Learn to nourish your body holistically. I'll be offering things I do in my own life as I, myself, am headed back to the classroom this fall as an educator--I'm right there with you, balancing the school day and the ability to stay nourished and hydrated while preventing getting that first cold or flu of the year! 🦠😷

This quick meal comes together and provides more than just protein to keep you nourished! Well-balanced with healthy carbs, lean proteins and healthy fats, you'll be able to keep your energy levels up with this delicious meal.

Fiber from the veggies and chickpeas helps to prevent a blood sugar spike as well as benefiting your digestive health. Eggs are like nature's multi-vitamin with so many vitamins and minerals in that little yolk!

Healthy Protein Power Bowl πŸ₯¦πŸ—πŸ₯š
Ingredients:
πŸ— Grilled chicken breast, sliced
πŸ₯¦ Steamed broccolini
πŸ₯• Steamed or roasted carrot sticks
πŸ₯š Hard-boiled eggs, halved
πŸ§† Cooked chickpeas
πŸ§‚ Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
1. Grill or pan-sear chicken breast with a pinch of salt and pepper until cooked through.
2. Steam broccolini and carrots until tender-crisp.
3. Boil eggs to your desired doneness, then peel and halve.
4. Warm chickpeas and season lightly.
5. Assemble all components in a bowl in sections.
6. Season with cracked black pepper or a drizzle of olive oil, if desired.

Ditch diet culture.

The quality of calorie and how much nutrition that calorie provides is what matters.

Our bodies are not robots. Counting calories can be beneficial if you are just seeing where you are (awareness), but meticulously counting every single calorie going into your body doesn't account for the intricacies and nuances of the human body.

We are not robots. Human beings need nutrients. Calories are simply a measurement of how much energy a particular food provides. More than that, it is an estimate! (Food labels can be off +/- 10%, which is quite significant.)

Learn to nourish your body instead of trying to make your body smaller. You will improve your physical health as well as your mental heath!
