In June, we celebrated the graduation of the first cohort of our new Leadership Accelerator program! This four-week course was designed to help our Clinic Directors build the skills they need to manage high-functioning teams that really make a difference in the lives of the seniors they serve. And this first group absolutely blew it out of the water!

Meet Wendy — a retired children’s teacher and beloved Long Beach resident — who faced lower body neuropathy and a CVA but never lost sight of her goal: returning home.

With the incredible support of her EmpowerMe Wellness team — Julia Walston, CD/COTA; Syntyche Amacio, PTA; Sarah Raasch, OTR; and Estella Boyles, PT — Wendy built strength, confidence, and the skills she needed to make it happen.

Today, she’s back in her Long Beach home, living independently and safely. Way to go, Wendy!

At Keystone Place at Terra Bella, our amazing residents — both current and past participants in skilled therapy — show up every Tuesday and Thursday for exercise groups led by our Rehab team. Even when schedules get busy, they keep the momentum going with extra sessions and encouragement to stick with it!

Through these classes, they’re building healthy habits that last: from home exercise programs to smart nutrition, proper hydration, and relaxation techniques for overall wellbeing.

Melissa’s journey is the perfect example of resilience and teamwork in action.

Melissa came to Willow Pass Healthcare Center after multiple brain bleeds that left her needing maximum help with all mobility and daily tasks. Before this, she was fully independent and working full-time, but when she arrived, she had significant tone and a fully flexed left arm contracture.

Our incredible team — Chelsea Pridgen (COTA), Ruth Grisanti (PT), and Nick Wedl (PT) — matched Melissa’s unrelenting determination every step of the way. Today, thanks to her hard work and their dedication, Melissa is walking out of our community with only a cane!

This is what “Teamwork makes the dream work” truly looks like. Way to go, Melissa!

Meet Joe, a resident of Independent Living at Clarendale Clayton, who recently took charge of his well-being during St. Louis’s severe weather season. Concerned about staying safe and independent in his apartment, Joe began working with two of our outstanding EmpowerMe clinicians—Physical Therapist Madi and Speech-Language Pathologist Andrea.

Through targeted therapy and support, Joe has significantly improved his oxygen line management during ambulation and has gained greater safety awareness at home. Now, he's moving with more confidence and handling unpredictable weather with greater peace of mind.
