💫The magic of music has returned to historic Powell Hall!💫

EverTrue was on site Friday to share in the magic of music as a Presenting Sponsor of th 2025/2026 Coffee Concert Series, a special event of the 146th season of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra (SLSO) in the newly expanded Jack C. Taylor Center Powell Hall.

EverTrue to our passion for enriching lives through community partnerships, EverTrue is honored to present the 2025/2026 Coffee Concert Series. At this inaugural concert, we learned that being a donut sponsor means your information table gets a lot of visitors! It was great to meet you! 🍩

As an organization dedicated to a mission of Older Adults Living Life to the Fullest, we know that music can be powerful in connecting a community in physical, cognitive, emotional and even spiritual ways.

Join EverTrue residents for these Friday concert events and experience the power of live symphonic music in the heart of St. Louis.

The EverTrue philanthropy team and Hylton Point Apartments were gifted a 2025 grant from AARP Livable Communities with funding support provided by Toyota USA and have completed a much-needed Neighborhood Safety Project with the funds.

The funds helped to build a speed hump in the Hylton Point Apartments area, while also allowing for a Neighborhood Safety Fair on Friday, Sept. 26 for the apartment’s older adult residents, their families and the surrounding communities.

EverTrue would also like to thank Shameem Clark Hubbard, Alderwoman of Ward 10, and the Centennial Christian Church for their letters of support regarding the need for the grant.
This initiative is set to bring significant benefits to our community, and we couldn’t have done it without your support.

We’re excited to share this positive change and look forward to seeing the impact. Residents already are enjoying the benefits!

“I have an electric bike, and I go everywhere on it – to the Arch, to the park, to the zoo and all over. I appreciate having a safe place to store it now. Thank you AARP and Toyota,” said a four-year resident of Hylton Point Apartments and avid bike rider.

As we celebrate Hispanic American Heritage Month (Sept. 15 – Oct. 15), we honor Cuban-American artist, world traveler and EverTrue Laclede Groves resident, Tommie Lee.

Born in Cuba to a Cuban father and an American mother, Tommie grew up speaking English at home and Spanish in her community – skills that opened doors throughout her life.

After moving to the United States in 8th grade, she flipped the script: Spanish at home, English everywhere else. Her bilingualism became a passport to the world, helping her build a career as a secretary for an international company, where she worked closely with South American partners and traveled the globe.

Upon moving to EverTrue Laclede Groves, Tommie Lee found opportunities to remain true to her passions. As a resident receiving StillYou® memory support services, she had access to join the Opening Minds through Art (OMA) program at Maryville University. Designed for people experiencing Alzheimer’s and dementia, Tommie Lee joined Occupational Therapy students for weekly sessions, enjoying painting and conversation.

Always an artist, today Tommie Lee’s apartment is filled with her work – watercolors inspired by her travels to Ireland, Italy, Germany, and, of course, Cuba, alongside hand-painted items and even a bust of herself she sculpted. 🧑‍🎨

Tommie Lee’s story is a beautiful example of how heritage, language and creativity can support a life EverTrue to purpose and passion.

Caregivers, and the work that goes into caring for a loved one with a dementia diagnosis has been in news lately thanks to Bruce Willis’ wife Emma Hemming Wilis and her new book, “The Unexpected Journey”.

EverTrue has long understood the fear, confusion and sense of uncertainty that affects not only an individual with a dementia diagnosis, but also all those who care for that individual.

That is why EverTrue continues to advance their Memory Support care options, now piloting the GUIDE program, Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience.

GUIDE is designed to improve the quality of life for people living with dementia, while also strengthening support for caregivers and helping people stay in their homes and communities longer.

GUIDE aims to address the top five stressors for caregivers, navigating the fears, complications and insights that Hemming Willis focuses on in her book.

Find out more about our GUIDE Program by visiting https://www.evertrueliving.org/guide/

There were no rough seas this afternoon for Robert “Bob” Pratzel, 76, a former member of the U.S. Coast Guard, who was able to share stories and memories with U.S. Coast Guard members, past and present, as part of the EverTrue Hospice Memorable Moment program.

Pratzel, who is in EverTrue Hospice for a Parkinson's diagnosis, had a nice lunch with the service members, his wife Christy and his brother and sister-in-law. The conversation focused on Robert's service from 1967 to 1977.

Bob remembers his time in the service with such fondness that it was the first – and only – thing he requested when approached by EverTrue with the possibility of creating a Memorable Moment. "To see so many attend to meet with him and share stories was really amazing. Two of the young men who came today are on the same boat as Bob was on when he was in the service," said his wife Christy.

EverTrue partnered with the local Coast Guard and Veterans Administration to invite fellow Coast Guard service members to come, hang out with Bob, share stories and have lunch.

The lunch included lots of laughter and sharing stories of their time in the service.

“It was such an emotional experience,” said Christy. “EverTrue Hospice has improved Bob’s life, and I think he may live longer because of it.”

Representatives from KMOV and Fox2Now attended the event, interviewing Bob and his family as they gathered material for a future story.

EverTrue designs Memorable Moment events for EverTrue Hospice patients with a focus on personalizing the activities, events and opportunities to multiply joy for individuals and their families to create lasting memories. The growth of EverTrue continues to be recognized in the news, with the Ashden apartment expansion at EverTrue Cumberland Crossings featured recently in the PennLive.com publication.

The new Ashden apartments meet a growing need for independent living in the region. The spaces are an answer to the trend of older adults seeking out apartment living for its freedom from maintenance while staying connected to family, friends and community.

September is Healthy Aging Month, a time to focus on the habits that support physical, mental and emotional well-being as we age. Harold Maness, EverTrue Laclede Groves resident, is a shining example of what healthy aging looks like in action. At 85, he picked up a pickleball paddle for the first time and it was love at first swing. Now approaching 100, Harold credits the sport with keeping him strong, social and energized.

But Harold doesn’t stop at pickleball. He writes, paints, travels, skydives and drives solo road trips to visit family. Each morning starts with his own workout routine, including 100 crunches.

For Harold, staying active and engaged isn’t a chore, it’s a joy. “If you enjoy what you do, you’ll live longer and happier,” he says.

In fact, Harold has become something of a role model in the pickleball community and the EverTrue Laclede Groves community for his positivity and his pickleball ability, known as the “Pickleball Champion.”

We went on a joyride for Black History Month today to Greenwood Cemetery established in 1874. In 2016, was placed on the St Louis County Historic Landmarks and most recently bestowed the honor of being listed on the National Underground Railway Network. We got to drive by the grave of Harriet Robinson Scott, wife of Dred Scott U.S. Supreme Court freedom suit plaintiff.

Residents along for the ride referred to family members buried there and reminisced at how far this cemetery has come since volunteers worked to restore and preserve the cemetery over the last 10 years. Our 100-year-old resident, Louisa, told us that her grandmother, all of her grandmother’s siblings, and others she knew were buried there. As we drove through the cemetery listening to a recording about the history and renovation of the site, she said “There was a time you were sad to burry your loved ones here years ago because it was so over-run. This looks wonderful. They did a wonderful job fixing this up.”
