💬 So often, women message me and ask about something that “went wrong” with their births and my usual question (or root of what I ask next) is “were you disturbed?” A.k.a. messed with, managed, interrupted, asked questions, or even watched etc etc.
💫Birth is a deeply physiological, intuitive, and sacred process—one that unfolds most beautifully when left undisturbed. When a woman is free to birth in her own time, in her own way, without unnecessary interference, her body and baby work together in perfect harmony.
In an undisturbed birth, a mother is able to stay in her primal, instinctual mind. Her hormones flow as they are designed to—oxytocin peaks, contractions build in their natural rhythm, endorphins rise to ease sensations, and she enters an altered state of consciousness that allows her to surrender fully to the power of birth (what we commonly refer to as ‘labor land’). Her baby moves through the her pelvis and transitions gently into the world, cradled by the familiar warmth and scent of the mother who carried them.
❕But disturbances—whether they come in the form of unnecessary monitoring, bright lights, frequent questioning, time constraints, or the mere presence of someone who does not trust her ability to birth—can interrupt this intricate process. Adrenaline rises, contractions slow, and the flow of labor is disrupted. A mother who feels watched, pressured, or doubted may struggle to let go, leading to longer, more difficult labors or the introduction of interventions that could have been avoided.
❣️Women are designed to birth. Babies know how to be born. And when we hold space for those truths—by protecting autonomy, meeting primal needs, and allowing birth to unfold undisturbed—we see birth play out in its most powerful, physiological, and transformational form.
✨Birth is not something to be managed. It is something to be honored.
