We're thrilled to announce that Birth in Color, a Black-owned reproductive justice nonprofit committed to advocating for safe and accessible maternal and reproductive health, will be hosting a community baby shower on April 14th, 2024, coinciding with Black Maternal Week!

We're looking for local businesses and food trucks to join us and make this event even more special. Birth in Color prioritizes inclusivity and empowerment, providing culturally-centered support to pregnant individuals, their families, and birthing communities.

As a Q***r Black Women, the recent ruling in Alabama hits me particularly hard. When my dad sent me the article he was not only concerned for my wife and me as we start the process of having kids but also worried about the added layer of challenges we face due to our race. We recently underwent an egg retrieval process. While we are grateful for all of our embryos, we certainly don’t intend to have that many children, this ruling could significantly impact our ability to decide our family’s size. It’s distressing to see how this decision disproportionately affects marginalized communities like ours. As a Black LGBTQ+ individual, I’m all too familiar with facing systemic barriers and discrimination. It’s disheartening to witness our basic rights being threatened in such a way, but it strengthens my resolve to fight for equality and the right to build the family of our choice, despite the additional challenges we face due to our intersecting identities.

Happy 4th Birthday, Birth in Color🤎.

I am so grateful and honored to be apart of this organization. Being a doula is so much more than just being present during pregnancy and birth, we are literally saving lives. Our work begins well before entering a labor and delivery room. We are dismantling systemic racism in maternal healthcare through community outreach, lobbying for policy changes, educating our communities and advocating for all pregnant people of color.

Placenta Encapsulation Deal💊💊! Are you interested in encapsulating your placenta or want to know more?? Reach out to me, lets talk❤️.

The Therapeutic Doula uses the Traditional Chinese Menthod (TCM) of placenta encapsulation. The average placenta makes between 80-125 capsules. However, I can not guarentee a certain amout of capsules but when taken correctly you can have many benefits.

The benefits of encapsulating include but are not limited to:
•Improved energy
•Restore natural hormonal balance
•Increase production of breast milk
•Decrease likelihood of insomnia
•Decrease likelihood of baby blues or postpartum depression
•Decrease likelihood of iron deficiency

I often am asked what the difference between a midwife and a doula is! Here is a quick summary of each role as well as how they work together. Midwives and birth doulas have a similiar goal, to provide you support. But the support each gives is very different. Did you have a birth doula supporting you through labor and birth? Did you find that your doula and midwife worked well together in supporting you? 🤍
