We have been saying this for years. Here’s the science 💜

Epigenetics researchers at the Institut Pasteur in Paris and INSERM have completed the most definitive human study of transgenerational epigenetic inheritance ever conducted — following three generations of Holocaust survivor families, Cambodian genocide survivor families, and control populations across 25 years — finding specific, reproducible methylation changes in stress-response genes (particularly the FKBP5 and NR3C1 glucocorticoid receptor genes) that are present in trauma survivors, transmitted to their biological children, and detectable in grandchildren who never experienced trauma themselves. Emotional pain leaves molecular scars. Those scars are heritable. 🧬
The mechanism — once considered impossible in mammals because the genetic dogma held that acquired characteristics cannot be inherited — operates through the germline epigenome. During the formation of s***m and eggs, the genome undergoes near-complete epigenetic reprogramming to remove parental marks. "Near-complete" is the operative word. Certain loci, including stress-response gene promoters, resist this reprogramming when the parent's stress exposure has been sufficiently severe and prolonged, maintaining their trauma-induced methylation patterns through the reprogramming process and passing them to the offspring's genome. The trauma experience writes itself into the reproductive cells.
The clinical implications are profound and already actionable. Children and grandchildren of trauma survivors show elevated baseline cortisol levels, altered HPA axis responsiveness, and increased risk of PTSD, anxiety, and depression — not because of how they were raised, but because of how their grandparents suffered. Understanding this mechanism means targeted epigenetic therapies could potentially reverse inherited stress marks, liberating future generations from trauma they never personally experienced.
The Pasteur team is now working with EMDR and methylation-targeting drug combinations. This is no longer metaphor — the inheritance of trauma is molecular, measurable, and potentially reversible.

Depression can be a crippling pain that seizes your brain and body with a vice force. Your brain can be convinced of truth in the innumerable lies it tells you.
“I am all alone”
“Nobody likes me”
“I can’t do this”

Despair and the creeping in of negative self talk can further pull you down until it becomes so encompassing that nothing seems possible.

Fighting depression is hard. Feeling despair is hard.
Asking for help can be even harder.

But we are here. We are willing to walk with you or sit with you in your space. You are never as alone as you feel. Pinkie promise.

A lot of people do not realize that the pain of trauma can also come once it begins to be processed. Having a therapist that is trauma certified can make a huge difference. Many people recommend EMDR, however that is not always the best course of action for every person, the relationship with a therapist often holds more value than the type of therapy being used. Looking for someone with whom you feel comfortable and safe is a sure way to ensure your processing and recovery are gentle and supported.

Do you have a “negative mindset”? One that focuses on the negative aspects of your life? Your job? Your situation? Studies have proven that your brain grows in the direction you train it to. Choose thoughts that are geared towards how you want to feel and think. You can learn new things no matter how old you are 💙

Neuroscience has shown that the way you speak and think can physically shape your mind. Studies reveal that frequent complaining and constant criticism activate stress circuits in the brain. When these circuits stay active for too long, they release chemicals that weaken the neurons responsible for focus, clarity, decision making, and emotional regulation. Over time, this repeated activation makes the brain more sensitive to stress and less efficient at concentrating.

Experts explain that negative speech patterns train the brain to stay in a defensive state. This state reduces activity in the prefrontal cortex, the area responsible for higher level thinking and attention. When the prefrontal cortex is disrupted, your ability to stay focused, solve problems, and think creatively decreases. The more you complain, the more your brain defaults to negativity, creating a loop that slowly damages cognitive performance.

Neuroscientists also warn that being around people who constantly complain has a similar effect. The brain mirrors the emotional states it observes. This means negativity is contagious, and your mind can adopt harmful patterns simply through repeated exposure.

The good news is that the brain can also rewire itself toward healthier habits. Practicing gratitude, reframing thoughts, and limiting negative conversations can protect your cognitive health and strengthen neural circuits linked to attention and emotional balance.

Your brain grows in the direction you train it. Choose thoughts that support mental clarity, not those that weaken it.

If you’ve noticed your child becoming more irritable, impatient, or “hooked” on screens, you’re not imagining it. Screens don’t just entertain – they rewire the brain’s reward pathways.
Here’s the cycle many children get stuck in… and why it becomes so hard to break
