The Dream Team is back - Join Sara Etheredge, DPT & Jacqueline Theis, OD at the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission Conference on October 28!

We’ll be presenting on Visual Work Hardening — a structured, progressive rehabilitation program designed for patients whose visual, vestibular, cervical, and sensory integration symptoms are interfering with their ability to return to work.

This approach focuses on restoring both visual endurance and functional tolerance through:
• Visual-vestibular retraining
• Cervical & postural rehab
• Oculomotor & sensorimotor integration
• Work simulation & graded task exposure

We’re looking forward to sharing how this innovative, interdisciplinary model can help patients safely and successfully re-enter the workplace.

Headed west to Portland, Oregon for the Great Western Council of Optometry (GWCO) Annual Congress, October 16–19!

I’ll be lecturing on several neuro-optometric topics close to my heart (and clinical practice!):
• Neurologic Dry Eye
• Cervicogenic Eye Pain
• Dizziness and the Visual System
• Parkinson’s Disease and Vision

GWCO is always an energizing meeting that brings together clinicians eager to learn, share, and strengthen our profession. Excited to be invited

See you in Portland!

Nutrition matters — not just for ocular health, but for the brain as well. Join me tomorrow at AAO Boston 2025, I’ll be lecturing on Lutein for Eye and Brain Health, discussing the growing body of research connecting carotenoids with cognitive function, visual performance, and long-term wellness.

Excited to share how something as simple as what’s on our plate can have profound effects on vision and the nervous system.

Dizziness is one of the most common and challenging complaints we hear in clinic.

Join me Friday at AAO Boston 2025, where I’ll be lecturing on “Dizziness: Is it coming from the eyes? (If not, where is it coming from?)”

We’ll untangle the interplay between the visual, vestibular, and proprioceptive systems, and highlight how optometrists can contribute to identifying the true source of a patient’s symptoms.

Looking forward to an engaging discussion on a symptom that truly demands interdisciplinary thinking.

Dry eye isn’t always “just dry eye” and the tear film isn't just "water on the eye."

Well you asked for it and Im back this time with a TWO HOUR course at AAO Boston 2025, I’ll be speaking on "Neurologic Dry Eye – What, like it’s hard?" Thursday Oct 9 from 10-12pm.

We’ll explore how the nervous system drives ocular surface symptoms, why pain doesn’t always match clinical signs, and how understanding neurobiology helps us better tailor therapies.

It’s a complex topic, but one that has huge impact on patient care — and I promise to make it anything but dry. 😉

Excited to kick off the American Academy of Optometry Annual Meeting in Boston (Oct 8–11) by leading the Brain Injury Vision Dysfunction Workshop on Thursday Afternoon from 2:30-4:30pm.

We’ll be diving into the nuances of diagnosing and managing visual dysfunctions after concussion and TBI, and how collaborative care can make all the difference for these patients.
Workshops like this are where education meets practice — I can’t wait to share and learn with colleagues who are passionate about advancing neuro-optometry, and am humbled to join my colleagues at Walter Reed to share pearls.

I’m resting my vocal cords to gear up for a full day of lecturing on Saturday, October 4th at the ALOA Annual Convention in Birmingham, Alabama!

I’m truly honored to be invited back to Alabama to share updates in neuro-optometry and treating visual sequelae of neurologic disease.

Looking forward to a great day of education, conversation, and collaboration!
