No one talks about the anxiety that comes with outgrowing people. You start healing, setting boundaries, and protecting your peace.

And suddenly relationships that once felt normal feel unfamiliar. Not because you stopped loving them, but because you’re evolving. Growth can feel lonely sometimes, but shrinking yourself to stay connected will cost you your peace.

Outgrowing people isn’t betrayal, it’s alignment. And choosing your mental wellness is never something you should apologize for 🤎

Something I noticed today while talking with several of my patients…

Many people are reaching a point where they’re realizing something important.

They’ve spent so much time being the one who shows up for everyone else…
being understanding, supportive, and accommodating.

But over time, they begin to recognize that their own needs, energy, and mental health matter too.

And that realization often leads to something new for them:

Setting boundaries.

Not out of anger.
Not to push people away.

But because they’re learning that protecting their mental health is necessary.Sometimes the hardest part of growth is realizing you don’t have to keep accepting things that don’t feel healthy for you.

Have you ever had that realization?

Let’s be honest. Medical apartheid isn’t an accident; It is a system. Experimentation. Lack of consent. Exploitation of the underserved. And when similar patterns show up today, we don’t get to act surprised about mistrust.

History repeats when accountability is quiet.

That’s why some of us built our practices intentionally, with transparency, boundaries, and protection at the center.

Because representation in healthcare isn’t about optics. It’s about safety.

Some of us didn’t enter this field to participate in the system. We came to change it.

This past Saturday, I had the honor of receiving the 2025 “Lift As You Climb” Award at the Richmond HER Collective’s HERoes Bruncheon, themed Rest. Reclaim. Rise.

I announced a few weeks ago that I had been nominated… but to actually be chosen for this award was something different. Standing in that room surrounded by powerful, beautiful Black women, I felt something I don’t often let myself feel: SEEN💐

I’ve never been one to chase the spotlight. I’ve always just done the work, helping others start, expand or grow their practices, sharing what I’ve learned, mentoring, advocating, because it’s who I am, not because I need recognition. But this moment reminded me: IT'S OK TO BE SEEN, to celebrate yourself, and to embrace the joy that comes from being acknowledged for what you pour into others.

This award hit deeply because, over the last 2 years, I’ve learned that boundaries and kindness can coexist. I’ve learned that my purpose doesn’t change, even when people mishandle me. I’m learning to build fences, not walls; to let the right people in while still protecting my peace.

I’m so thankful to my family, friends, and colleagues who came to celebrate with me and those who continue to walk beside me through every season. 💛

Thank you Richmond HER for recognizing that Black women are the backbone of community, leadership, and resilience, and for creating a space where we can rest, reclaim, and rise together.

Here’s to lifting as we climb, and remembering that our light doesn’t dim when we shine it on others.✨

Ten years in the game, and the disparities in mental health care are still glaring. As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I see the impact of these barriers' impact daily. Minority communities face unique challenges when seeking help, from cultural stigma to systemic racism. This anniversary marks a decade of fighting for equitable care grounded in cultural humility. Let's work together to break down these barriers and ensure everyone can access quality mental health services.

Impulsivity in children can be confusing. It's important to differentiate between typical childhood behaviors and signs of ADHD. ADHD impulsivity is persistent and affects how a child functions. At Unique Holistic Care, we believe in thorough assessments. We take the time to truly understand what's going on.

Did You Know? 🧠

Black children are diagnosed with autism an average of 6 months later than white children, often after years of parental concern. This delay can significantly impact their development and access to vital support.

I'm working to change that! 🙌🏾

It's important to understand that non-white children are more likely to be initially misdiagnosed with conditions like ADHD or conduct disorder before receiving an accurate autism diagnosis. This can lead to delays in receiving the appropriate support.

I'm committed to breaking down barriers and filling in gaps. 💪🏾

I'm excited about this training to incorporate the ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, 2nd Edition) into my practice to help ensure accurate and timely diagnoses for children.

This expansion of services at Unique Holistic Care means:

✅️Comprehensive Autism Assessments: The ADOS-2 is one of many valuable tools within a thorough diagnostic process that includes clinical interviews, observations, and collaboration with families to gain a complete understanding of each child's needs.

✅️Reduced wait times: Families will have quicker access to this crucial diagnostic service.

✅️Culturally sensitive care: I understand the unique cultural nuances that can impact the diagnostic process and will provide a safe and supportive environment for all families.

We are committed to working towards a future where every child receives the support they need. ❤️
