Trauma bonding is when a person forms a strong emotional connection with someone who hurts or abuses them. This happens because the abuser alternates between being cruel and showing kindness. The victim starts to value these small acts of care, making it hard for them to leave.

This cycle of abuse and reward confuses the victim, making them feel dependent on the abuser. It often occurs in abusive relationships, controlling families, or exploitative groups. The bond is not based on love but on fear and hope that things will improve.

If someone you cared about was trapped in such a bond, would you know how to help them without pushing them further away?
