Our Family Medicine Residency Program is excited to welcome six new physicians to Richmond as they take the next step in their careers! Over three years, they’ll gain a range of experience in family medicine across our system before moving on to start their own practices.
Dr. Vikram Gill received his medical degree from the Marian University Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine. An avid gardener since he was a kid, Dr. Gill grows everything from herbs and vegetables to fruit trees such as peaches, pears, and plums.
“I love figuring out what thrives in each season, and there’s nothing better than cooking dinner with ingredients you just picked that morning.
“I first knew I wanted to go into medicine when I realized I could combine my love for science with my desire to genuinely connect with people, but it was during a shadowing experience in college that everything truly came into focus.
“I spent a lot of time following and learning from a family physician who treated multiple generations of the same families — newborns to grandparents — and what struck me most wasn’t the textbook knowledge or procedures, but the quiet moments of connection. I watched as he greeted each patient not just by name, but with warmth, familiarity, and a sense of continuity that made the clinic feel more like a living room than a medical office.
“I saw what it meant to care for the whole person — not just their symptoms. He explained diagnoses in plain language, paused when patients hesitated, and asked about their jobs, their kids, even their recent camping trip. It was medicine, but it was also mentorship, advocacy, and community. That experience stayed with me. I didn’t just want to solve problems. I wanted to be someone people could turn to, grow with, and trust.
