Congratulations to Avery Point resident Hilda C. Kelly -- Honorary Grand Marshal of the 2025 Montpelier Days Parade! She will be celebrated for her lifetime of impact in the community at the Parade on September 27.

🎉 We are proud to announce the Honorary Grand Marshal of the 2025 Montpelier Days Parade… Mrs. Hilda C. Kelly! 🎉

Born and raised on a farm in Beaverdam, Hilda’s roots run deep in Hanover County. Together with her late husband, James C. “Buddy” Kelly, she built a life centered on faith, family, and service to the Hanover community.

Hilda dedicated 53 years to education, including 37 years with Hanover County Public Schools. She served in many roles—most notably as Principal of Montpelier Elementary School (1970–1973) and later as Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Leadership (K–12) until her retirement in 1998. Her commitment to creating positive learning environments left a lasting mark on students, teachers, and families alike.

Her service didn’t stop in the classroom—Hilda has been a tireless volunteer and community leader, serving on numerous boards and committees. In 1987, she was honored as the Hanover County Christmas Mother, a role that deepened her legacy of giving back.

Please join us on Saturday, September 27 at 10 a.m. as we celebrate Hilda C. Kelly and her lifetime of impact by cheering her on as she leads the Montpelier Days Parade!
