Here’s how I made these visual/picture schedules for my 5 year old son with Autism.
1) Make the documents using Canva- I just have the free version
2) Cut a piece of cardboard big enough to fit your visual aid on- I had an empty box lying around I was able to use.
3) Place the visual(s) down and cover them entirely in tape- I used packing tape. This will allow you to mark out each task once it’s done using a dry erase marker that can be wiped clean after.
4) Place and binder clip at the top- if you want to hang it. Done!
I’ve always worked with adults as a Speech Pathologist. My areas of specialty are stroke therapy, dementia education and support, speech and voice. I’m now finding myself using my tools as a communication expert in a new way for me- with my son. I’m learning as I go and we’re finding out what works for him/us. So, I thought I’d share! I really do love a good visual aid. I’m just used to making more adult-looking visuals. Haha. 😊
