☀️ Did you know that some common medications can make it harder for your body to handle hot weather? As summer temperatures rise, it’s important to be aware of heat intolerance—especially if you or someone you care for takes any of the following:
Diuretics (like furosemide, chlorthalidone, hydrochlorothiazide)
Beta blockers (such as metoprolol, atenolol, carvedilol, propranolol)
ACE inhibitors (lisinopril)
Angiotensin II receptor blockers (losartan, valsartan)
Antiplatelets (clopidogrel)
SSRI and SNRI antidepressants (citalopram, escitalopram, fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline, duloxetine, venlafaxine)
Tricyclic antidepressants (amitriptyline, nortriptyline)
Antipsychotics (risperidone, quetiapine, haloperidol, olanzapine)
ADHD medications (dextroamphetamine, methamphetamine, methylphenidate)
Anticholinergics (benztropine, oxybutynin, tolterodine)
Antihistamines (diphenhydramine)
Decongestants (pseudoephedrine, phenylephrine)
Dopaminergics (levodopa)
If you’re taking any of these, remember to:
Stay hydrated
Take breaks in cool or shaded areas
Watch for signs of heat exhaustion
