It’s National AHEC week!

Get to know the people and places behind the impact.

National AHEC Week starts next week, and we’re excited to give you a preview of some of the people and programs we’ll be highlighting.

You’ll meet leaders like Byron Crouse, MD, who has spent more than four decades advancing rural health in Wisconsin, and AHEC Scholar alum Milan Patel, who works to introduce kids to healthcare professions with Catskill Hudson AHEC.

We’ll also spotlight the work happening at AHEC centers across the country, including Northeast Oregon AHEC and Southwest Louisiana Area Health Education Center, where innovative programs are helping students explore health careers, supporting clinical training, and strengthening the healthcare workforce.

These are just a few of the stories we’ll share during National AHEC Week.

Applications are being accepted for the Virginia Area Health Education Centers Scholars Program which recruits, trains, and supports a diverse group of students from across the state, creating a multidisciplinary team of health professionals committed to both community service and the transformation of health care in Virginia. https://www.vaahec.org/ahec-scholars

Selected applicants participate in a two-year educational program and may be eligible to receive a stipend. Virginia AHEC Scholars Program includes 40 hours of didactic and 40 hours of clinical activities each year. Scholars develop new skills and are introduced to an interprofessional framework that will be crucial to improving health and health care.
