Mountain Comprehensive Care Center and its Healing Program for Survivors of Sexual Assault and Interpersonal Violence joined partners across Kentucky earlier this month to recognize the efforts being made to prevent child abuse. October 4th is TEN-4 Day in Kentucky and beyond — a day to raise awareness and take action to protect young children from harm.

TEN-4 reminds us all to look for signs of potential abuse — particularly bruising on the Torso, Ears, or Neck of children under four. If you see something, speak up. All Kentuckians are mandated reporters. If you believe a child is being abused or neglected, call the Child Protection Hotline at 1-877-KYSAFE1 (1-877-597-2331).

MCCC is a proud partner of the Kosair for Kids Face It Movement, created in response to the rising number of child abuse deaths in Kentucky. By proclaiming October 4th as TEN-4 Awareness Day, Face It and its partners work to increase awareness of the TEN-4-FACESp Bruising Rule — an easy-to-remember acronym that helps identify bruising more likely to indicate abuse rather than accidental injury in children under four years of age.

We extend our sincere thanks to the leaders who joined us in this year’s proclamation efforts: Breathitt County Judge/Executive Jeff Noble; Estill County Judge/Executive Donnie Watson; Johnson County Judge/Executive Mark McKenzie; Magoffin County Judge/Executive Matthew Wireman; Mayor Bill Runyon, City of Paintsville; Pike County Judge/Executive Ray Jones II; and Wolfe County Judge/Executive Raymond Banks.

Thank you for your leadership and for standing together to raise awareness and protect Kentucky’s children.

“It’s one thing to be in class learning and being taught about community interventions, but when you’re actually out in the real world interacting with people, you get to actually see the vulnerable populations you work with.” Jake Hubbard, EKU Public Health student, was among student organizers of the Enrich community needs fair in Richmond that was created to support individuals in recovery or struggling with addiction.

We were honored to participate alongside UK Healthcare, Baptist Health’s mobile unit, and others as part of this powerful initiative — bringing resources, support, and connection directly to those who need it.

At Mountain Comprehensive Care Center, we’re always glad to partner with local students and institutions to support learning experiences that have a lasting impact on the communities we serve.
