💡 Researchers at Virginia Commonwealth University used Virginia’s All-Payer Claims Database ( ) to map where primary care shortages are most prevalent. According to the study, rural communities face the biggest gaps in primary care, affecting prevention, chronic disease management and overall health outcomes. It is inspiring to see how VHI's data can support meaningful studies that bring attention to healthcare gaps and opportunities across Virginia.

Last week, VHI's Health Information Exchange ( ) team joined CRISP Shared Services in Maryland for their annual All-Teams meeting!

🏕️ This year's meeting was camp-themed, complete with fireside chats and matching T-shirts. The team had a great time connecting with other HIEs and CSS team members, discussing shared goals and strengthening the partnerships that drive our work forward.

đź’ˇHave you heard about SAFE Birth VA?
Following rising maternal morbidity concerns in Virginia, the Standardized Approaches For Emergencies in Birth ( ) initiative, led by the Virginia Neonatal Perinatal Collaborative, was written into law earlier this year. This new legislation will require all hospitals, emergency departments and birthing centers to follow standardized, evidence-based protocols when treating pregnant or postpartum patients in crisis.

➡️ VNPC is hosting two upcoming webinars on July 23 and August 6 to introduce these new requirements, implementation steps and additional resources available to care teams, including VHI’s Emergency Department Care Coordination ( ) program.

This week, the stepped away from the screens and into the sunshine for a day at Tabbs Creek Flower Farm! Together we learned about some summer blooms, made our own arrangements and enjoyed a picnic lunch as a team 🌻🌷

The Virginia All-Payer Claims Database ( ) brings these into focus. Inclusive of de-identified claims across many payers and care settings, the APCD depicts a robust view of healthcare in Virginia—what is working, what patterns exist and where there is room for improvement.

From population-level analysis to person-level insight, the APCD is used by healthcare decision-makers to improve , quality and outcomes.

Over the past year, the Emergency Department Care Coordination ( ) program has focused on developing enhancements and strengthening partnerships to better support maternal health in Virginia. By enabling access to real-time alerts, patient history and shared insights, the EDCC empowers care teams to connect with other providers and close critical gaps in care.

Organizations like Urban Baby Beginnings are a powerful example of these partnerships in action, and it feels only right to highlight their impact on maternal care during .

🚨 We’re hiring! Virginia Health Information (VHI) is looking for a collaborative, strategic and people-centered Assistant Director of Analytics & Reporting Services to join our team in Richmond, VA.

This is a hands-on leadership role that bridges technical expertise with operational insight, supporting a mission-driven team focused on delivering high-quality health data reporting and analytics.

We’re looking for someone who:
✔️ Has 5+ years of experience in health data, claims or healthcare analytics
✔️ Brings at least 2 years of team management experience, with a strong record of developing staff
✔️ Understands the nuances of healthcare administrative data and large-scale reporting
✔️ Is comfortable managing projects and vendors, and using tools like Tableau, Excel, SQL or ArcGIS
✔️ Has worked in public health, nonprofit or healthcare data environments

Over the past few weeks, the VHI team has been on the go engaging with partners, presenting at conferences and discussing the future of and . Here’s a look at where we’ve been!:

➡️ We met with Fairfax County Government Health Department to discuss our continued partnership and utilization of Virginia’s in advancing
➡️ Our Health Information Technology ( ) team exhibited at the ImmunizeVA Annual Meeting on how VHI's programs support efforts and reporting requirements
➡️ We attended the HIMSS Virginia Chapter Data Analytics Symposium and heard former VHI board member, Dr. José Morey, speak on the future of healthcare and artificial intelligence
➡️ Our Emergency Department Care Coordination ( ) team presented at the Virginia Association of Community Services Boards ( ) Training and Development Conference alongside PointClickCare and Prince William County CSB on the benefits of our partnership
➡️ We connected and exchanged ideas with fellow health data organizations nationwide at the National Association of Health Data Organizations Annual Conference
➡️ We discussed the EDCC program’s impact on and care across Virginia at Early Impact Virginia's 2025 Virginia Home Visiting Conference
