The rise of online health misinformation—particularly through social media—has become a significant challenge for healthcare professionals. Patients are increasingly turning to the internet for medical information, often encountering content that is misleading or inaccurate.

This not only impacts clinical decision-making, but also contributes to longer consultations, increased anxiety, and erosion of trust between patients and healthcare professionals.

To navigate these challenges, clinicians must adopt strategies centered on empathy, clear communication, and patient education. By actively listening, using plain language, and guiding patients toward reputable, evidence-based sources, clinicians can help patients make informed decisions while strengthening the practitioner-patient relationship.
