Last week the Saint Francis – Manchester residents tested their speed and strength at the Science Museum of Virginia. From testing their throwing arm, to racing with our new Program Assistant/Volunteer Coordinator, Caroline, there was fun to be had at every turn!

In 1996, Saint Francis’s second expansion project was completed: Bill Vesey Hall. Vesey Hall is named after a former Executive Director to memorialize his work and impact on the community. With this expansion, 32 rooms were added in an effort to serve more seniors with limited financial means.

Damian and Kathy Muller gave a concert at Saint Francis. They performed a variety of songs, including hymns, patriotic songs, Broadway show tunes and pop. Everybody hopes they will come back. Thanks for the entertainment!

In 1986 Saint Francis broke ground for their first expansion—the construction for what is now Ligouri Hall. Ligouri was built to help meet the demand of that time, and currently Saint Francis – Manchester still strives to meet the ongoing need of affordable housing for low-income seniors.

This summer, the Saint Francis residents got the opportunity to visit the Visual Arts Center of Richmond. During this outing, the residents made wonderful glass art and were very excited to receive their finished pieces and display them in their home!

Saint Francis – Manchester made the most of summer! Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens was one outing of many, giving the residents time to enjoy the warm weather and some of nature’s beauty.

After the founding, Bainbridge Catholic Home was rededicated as Saint Francis Home in 1978, and then rebranded as Saint Francis – Manchester in 2022. Like our namesake, Saint Francis – Manchester hopes to sow love, hope, and joy throughout our community by providing an affordable home and quality care for seniors with limited financial means.

The residents of Saint Francis – Manchester are connoisseurs in the making! Last month, the residents enjoyed a beautiful trip to explore the art and culture of exhibitions at the Virginia Museum of Fine Art.

Saint Francis – Manchester has served seniors in the greater Richmond area for over 50 years. Originally founded in 1973 as Bainbridge Catholic Home, Saint Francis was home to 8 residents. Today in 2025, Saint Francis has the capacity to serve over 100 residents!
