It’s World Mental Health Day!

💚 Today is World Mental Health Day, first initiated in 1992 by the World Federation for Mental Health to raise awareness and support for mental well-being across the globe.

Dr. Maya Angelou often wrote about healing and the strength we find within and alongside others. In her poem “Alone,” she reminds us:

✨ “Lying, thinking / Last night / How to find my soul a home / Where water is not thirsty / And bread loaf is not stone / I came up with one thing / And I don’t believe I’m wrong / That nobody / But nobody / Can make it out here alone.”

Her words encourage us to remember that caring for our mental health is not something we must do in isolation. Reaching out, leaning on community, and offering compassion to ourselves and others are all acts of strength.

Today, and every day, let us choose connection, kindness, and hope.

April is Alcohol Awareness Month! Did you know that alcohol enters your bloodstream as soon as you take your first sip. Alcohol’s immediate effects can appear within about 10 minutes. As you drink, you increase your blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level, which is the amount of alcohol present in your bloodstream. The higher your BAC, the more impaired you become by alcohol’s effects. These effects can include: Reduced inhibitions, Slurred speech, Motor impairment, Confusion, Memory problems, Concentration problems, Breathing problems.

People who drink too much over a long period of time may experience alcohol’s longer-term effects, which can include:

Alcohol dependence, Health problems, Increased risk for certain cancers. During this month be sure to learn about alcohol and the effect it may personally have on you and your family.
