CrossOver's annual Compassionate Care Awards honors three volunteers who embody the mission of CrossOver in bringing high quality, compassionate healthcare to people in need.

This year, we're delighted to honor Dr. Ernest Fornaris, who has volunteered at CrossOver as a primary care physician for more than a decade, serving countless patients in both English and Spanish. The dignity and care he brings to each patient encounter is clearly evident every Friday morning at the Henrico clinic. "It is a privilege to be in a position to care for people and have such trusted access into their private lives, to help keep them well and help them meet their life goals," Dr. Fornaris said.

Opening Doors, Welcoming All is CrossOver's campaign to raise $9 million to enhance and expand our Henrico clinic to continue to deliver the exceptional, compassionate care we are known for.

With your support, we will provide:
👩‍⚕️ Healthier Families from the very beginning with the creation of Maternal Child Health Clinic
👷 Enhanced Safety and Hospitality with structural improvements including a new roof, updated HVAC and fire suppression, and an elevator
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 A 25% capacity increase! Updated and additional clinic space will allow us to see more than 8,250 patients annually.

We're thrilled that CrossOver's very own Nursing Coordinator Marilyn Metzler is featured today as one of The Richmonder's "25 in 25" featuring 25 unsung Richmond heroes!

Marilyn is one of CrossOver's longest-serving employees and is loved by so many who get the privilege of working alongside her to care for CrossOver's patients.

Nearly 50 families attended our Back to School Vaccine clinics last week to get the required vaccinations they needed to start school.

Thanks to MEDRVA Healthcare and The MedRVA Foundation for offering free vision screenings to patients and to Unity Church of Bon Air and Third Church, who supplied 140 backpacks full of school supplies to help ensure these kids get a great start to the school year!

And a special shout out to Anne Granger, a faithful volunteer RN and chef extraordinaire, for providing a delicious dinner (complete with chocolate peanut butter pie!) for the vaccine clinic team.

CrossOver recently celebrated Leo Ross, who has volunteered as our Pharmacist-in-Charge for 20 years! While he is passing on that role to another volunteer, he will continue to serve a weekly shift at our Community Pharmacy.

Thank you, Leo, for your kindness, hard work, generosity, and determination, which has made it possible for thousands of people to receive the medications they need!

It's Virginia Intern Day!

Each summer, CrossOver hosts college student interns who provide much-needed clinic support and receive an up-close, hands-on experience with medical professionals in a community health clinic setting. This summer, CrossOver hosted students from the University of Notre Dame, Baylor University, and Washington and Lee.

Interns spent 8 weeks at CrossOver—working the front desk, serving as scribes for medical providers, and serving as interpreters if they were able. They were also able to learn in-depth from our staff providers, shadow volunteer medical providers from a variety of specialties, and gain valuable clinical experience, as well as conduct their own research projects.

Of our 4 interns:
• 3️⃣ are majoring in Neuroscience
• 2️⃣ have second majors in Religion or Theology
• 2️⃣ are native Spanish speakers
• 1️⃣ is an international student, and
• all 4️⃣ are pursuing careers in medicine!

Camila, Ericka, Isabel, and Kyle--we're so thankful for your service and excited about your futures as highly skilled, compassionate medical professionals serving your communities. We're proud to work alongside you!
