Dresden, Maine — Gary Alan Getchell, 89, passed away peacefully at his home on November 3, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 20, 1935, he was the son of the late Ray H. and Ruth E. Getchell of Dresden ME.

Gary devoted his life to education, mentorship, and community. His teaching career began in 1957 and spanned schools in Raynham, Lynn, Foxborough, and Yarmouth, MA. From 1974 to 1982, he served as Principal of Mattacheese Middle School in Yarmouth, later teaching mathematics at Cape Cod Community College until his retirement in 2002. Though he left the classroom, Gary never stopped teaching, continuing to guide and inspire others throughout his life.

He lived for 40 years on Cape Cod and deeply cherished the friends and colleagues he made during that time. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity and Past Master of Howard Lodge AF&AM in South Yarmouth and Pilgrim Lodge AF&AM in Harwich, MA.

Known for his intelligence, humor, and deep understanding of people, Gary lived with a spirit of curiosity and determination. He loved proving that aging need not slow one's enthusiasm for life—always dreaming, building, and learning.

In retirement, Gary and his wife, Judy, settled in Dresden, ME, in his ancestral home built in 1761. He spent his days restoring the house, welcoming friends, and building community on "Getchell Hill." He especially cherished time with family and friends—the Getchell Gang—enjoying Sunday bocce and barbecues, winter gatherings, Patriots games, and pool games with Mike and Vince.

Gary is survived by his wife of 63 1/2 years, Judy Gilmore Getchell; children Wendy Getchell-Lacey (Tom) of Salisbury, MA; Janine Bouchard (Chris) of Madison, NH; and Glenn Getchell (Angie) of Rome, GA. He is also survived by grandchildren Emily, Daniel, Samantha, Wil, and Ellie, and great-grandchild Luca. He was predeceased by his parents and daughter-in-law, Laura W. Getchell.

In Remembrance
Sonia J. Lilly – January 19,1971 – January 13, 2026
Sonia, a daughter of Mary and Wesley Cray, sr. of Richmond and daughter-in-law of Gorham and Sharon Lilly of Dresden, passed away in the evening of January 13th in the loving, devoted arms of her husband of 28 years, Steve Lilly, who never left her side during her ordeal, as well as a few family and friends to support him as she left this world.
Sonia grew up in Richmond and graduated from Richmond High School, keeping in touch with some of her closest friends after graduation. Along the way, she made many new friends from all walks of life.
She was a people - person and enjoyed being with the public doing anything from making pizzas at her aunt's pizza parlor to caring for the residents at Richmond Eldercare, helping at various places if they were shorthanded. Her most special job was that as a long-time dispatcher for the Lincoln County 911 Communications Center, a difficult job but she always did her job with much care and professionalism.
Sonia enjoyed a wide variety of activities. From bowling, hunting, fishing, camping, four-wheeling, snowmobiling, playing cards, etc. She loved having so many friends and family that joined them for the annual August party.
Sonia was a very well trained and experienced firefighter for Dresden Fire/Rescue for more than 30 years. She had also been one of the first people to train as a Dresden first responder.
Family was such an important part of Sonia's life and if anyone needed help, she would be one of the first to be there for them. With no children of their own, she treated her nieces and nephews as her own. And she loved her dogs.
Sonia was predeceased by her parents, a sister Ethel Call, brother-in-law, Elwin Page, and a nephew.
She leaves her sisters Donna and Nettie, her brothers, Wesley, jr., Robert, Leon and their significant others, sister-in-law Amy Lilly, her in-laws, and her many nieces and nephews to carry on her memories.
Steve will never forget the tremendous outpouring of love and support shown to them during the difficult time. So many people stepped up to help whenever possible. The cards, flowers, food and words of support meant a lot. He will always remember the day Waldoboro Ambulance brought her home seeing the road lined with firefighters, EMS, police and others all the way from Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, through Bath, Woolwich, and Wiscasset arriving at her home finding the Woolwich Fire Chief and a Richmond Fire truck waiting to guide them in.
Also, there were some very special people who have been with him during the really tough days and helped to guide him before, during and after Sonia's passing. Thank you doesn't seem to be the significant words to express his true feelings, but he hopes everyone knows they are all special.

Stephen J. Dean, born June 15, 1971, passed peacefully on December 25, 2025, surrounded by love, at a place that was very special to him on Catherine Avenue in Ellsworth, Maine. Stephen was devotedly cared for by his cousin Jody, her husband Captain Dave, and a cherished friend from Lewiston, Maine.

Stephen lived a life rich with purpose, joy, and connection. He had a charismatic personality, an infectious smile, and a genuine love for life that touched countless people throughout his journey. Wherever Stephen went, he made friends easily and left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Attending Pine Tree camp every summer was one of his favorite activities.

Stephen had a deep love for the Lord and faithfully attended church with his family and many friends. His faith was an important part of his life and guided the kindness, gratitude, and joy he shared with others.

Throughout his life, Stephen volunteered with numerous fire departments across the state of Maine, forming strong bonds with firefighters and first responders in many communities. He took great pride in his volunteer work and was deeply respected and loved by those he served alongside. The fire stations were not just places he volunteered — they were places where he found friendship, belonging, and purpose.

Stephen also found great joy in participating in Special Olympics, where he proudly competed in bocce ball, track walking, and swimming. Through his dedication and enthusiasm, he earned a variety of medals and awards, celebrating not only his athletic ability but also his determination and sportsmanship. He especially loved swimming and the sense of freedom it gave him.

Music was another great passion in Stephen's life. He loved southern gospel and bluegrass music and found immense happiness listening to and sharing it with others. One of his most cherished experiences was having the opportunity to be part of a bluegrass band performance — a moment that perfectly reflected his love of music, community, and joy-filled living.

A social soul, Stephen also loved attending dances and music events, where his joy was unmistakable. One of his favorite memories was having the chance to try on a DJ's hat — an experience that captured his playful spirit and love for fun.

Stephen spent his early years living with his mother in Augusta and Palermo, Maine, as well as, South Carolina. He later graduated high school and earned his diploma from a special education school in Charlotte, South Carolina. As a teen and young adult, he lived with his mother and stepfather in several towns throughout Maine.

He participated in and was supported by many meaningful programs throughout the state, including Families Matter Day Program in Augusta, LEAP in Farmington, Momentum programs in Casco, Norway, and Cherryfield, and Coastal Community Care (CCC) in Lewiston. Through these communities, Stephen built lasting friendships and continued to thrive.

Stephen was preceded in death by his birth mother Leta Lorraine Wheeler, stepfather Alton Warren of Augusta, Maine, birth father Stephen J. Dean Sr., of New Hampshire; and grandparents, Everard S. Andrews Jr., and Rosalie M. Wheeler-Andrews of West Gardiner, Maine

He is survived by his primary legal guardian, Dixie Morang, who was his devoted aunt in addition to numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him dearly and will forever carry his memory in their hearts.

Stephen's life was a testament to joy, service, faith, music, and connection. He showed the world how to live fully, love deeply, and greet each day with gratitude and enthusiasm. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched and the countless smiles he brought to others.

A celebration of Stephen's life will be held on his Birthday June 15, 2026 at Faith Christian Church located at 280 Brunswick Ave, Gardiner, Maine.

Ellen L. Jackson, 66 of Farmingdale, ME. It is with profound heartbreak that we announce the passing of Ellen Louise Jackson, who left this world far too soon on December 6, 2025, after bravely facing an aggressive cancer. Though her time here was shorter than any of us could have ever imagined, she filled every corner and every minute, with color, laughter, and joy. Wherever she went, fun seemed to follow. She had a gift for turning even the most ordinary moments into memories: a run to the grocery store became an adventure, a simple walk turned into a lesson in botany, and any gathering—big or small—became brighter the moment she walked in.

A devoted lover of flowers, gardening, and the quiet beauty of digging in the dirt, Ellen could coax life from even the smallest seed. Her garden was nothing short of a small miracle—an unexpected oasis carved along a busy road where engines hummed and tires hissed. Drivers who passed by rarely intended to slow down, but they always did.

Ellen was an active member and past president of the Kennebec Valley Garden Club where her enthusiasm, creativity, and kindness made her a beloved presence at every meeting. She recently retired after a remarkable 35-year career with the State of Maine, serving as a Programs Analyst.

Ellen is survived by her long-time devoted partner Bruce Kane, her mother, Barbara Batchelder, sisters Carol Taylor and Lynn Haste, brother David Jackson, and nieces, Kelly, Annie, and Barbie, who will carry her memory in their hearts always.

A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, December 12th from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at Kincer Funeral Home,130 Pleasant Street, Richmond, ME. 04357, where friends and family are invited to gather, share stories, and honor the incredible woman she was. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating directly to the American Cancer Society or planting something in your garden in her memory, so her love of growing things may continue to bloom in the world.
