Spring brings the opportunity for new beginnings and so it will be with our pharmacy. As of today, Bluegrass has been sold to Walgreens. This was an extremely difficult decision to make with several aspects considered. Many of you know Danny has had major health issues over the past couple of years, so that has played a major part in our decision to reevaluate our situation and take a different path. Danny is not worse, but we have decided to retire and take more time to be with family and friends, travel, and focus on health and decreasing responsibilities. Danny will continue to do relief work outside of Richmond.
The pharmacy world is going through difficult times with all pharmacies taking major losses on medications. There is need for major government reform with healthcare in general. It will take time for these needed changes to take place.
We started our pharmacy over 17 years ago, have raised our children there, have seen several of our techs go on to pharmacy school, nursing, social work, education, and other careers. We have valued our time serving as mentors for area pharmacy schools.
The hardest part has been knowing that we won’t be able to continue serving our loyal customers. Please know that we looked for independent buyers but there were none who could take it on at this time. We are thankful that Walgreen’s was able to continue to care for our customers. We were not able to discuss the transition but everyone should be receiving a letter soon. We are also happy that each of our technicians accepted positions with Walgreens and will be a familiar face there to help ease the transition. Each of our customers has meant so much to us. We have enjoyed caring for your medication needs, listening to your stories, and sharing in your life journey. Your prayers have sustained us through a challenging time. We wish each of you good health and have been honored to serve our local community for over 20 years. Each of us has worked in health care for 43 years, so it will be an adjustment for us as well. Thank you for being part of our journey 💙
