It’s a major challenge not to compare my recovery journey with that of another. How natural to try to figure out exactly what it will look like, before it happens.

It’s really scary how hopeless someone can feel one minute, and back to reality and hopeful that same person can feel a couple hours later. Mood disorders are no joke. 🥹

I did not write this, but it speaks..
Much love y’all ♥️
~~~
The way people view you.
Sometimes I think about the different characters I play in everybody’s story.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m a terrible person in some people's narratives and a Godsend in others.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And none of it has anything to do with the person I truly am.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The lens that others view you through is coloured by their upbringing, beliefs, and individual experiences.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some people see your bright personality as endearing and others see it as annoying.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some people think you’re weak and emotional and others feel safe to be themselves around you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some people think you’re rude and selfish and others respect the way you stand up for yourself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some people admire the way you take pride in the way you look and others think you’re conceited.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And none of it has to do with who you truly are as a person.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What you have to understand is that you have no authority over how people view you so never try to control the way others see you because the only thing that truly matters when the dust settles down at the end of the day is what you genuinely see in yourself.
- Certainty
There are only two certainties in the world of OCD. If you give thoughts value and give in to compulsions to try to get immediate certainty or immediate relief from anxiety, you will stay in the hell pit. On the other hand, if you deprive OCD of what it craves by allowing the thought to be in your mind through indifference and resist giving in to the compulsion, you move towards recovery. And if you keep doing this, over and over, eventually you will get to a place where OCD doesn't adversely affect your life. It is a fork-in-the-road-choice. It is the ability to make this choice that makes you more powerful than the disorder. (Illustration courtesy of the amazing artist and OCD Advocate Sean Shinnock)
The Pet Effect, also known as the human-animal bond, is the mutually beneficial relationship between people and animals that positively impacts the health and well-being of both. Learn more: https://bit.ly/34uYvVz
Our friends at Human Animal Bond Research Institute - HABRI are working to support scientific study of the health benefits of pets. So, check them out to learn more about the pet effect!
Note: Not everyone can or wants to spend time around animals, and that's totally okay. There are many other ways to improve your mental health without the use of animal companions.
