šŸ„Accomplishing our mission requires that we raise finances to help alleviate some of the operational expenses that are necessary to make Powhatan Lacrosse a continued success and support growth of the program.

RABID is taking part in this year's NASCAR Day Giveathon! It begins 8am tomorrow (14th) and runs for 36 hours. During this time we ask for anyone willing and able to donate to our cause using our link.

Donations may be matched if they are given early in an hour listed in the chart I will follow this with. This is a win win for us! In addition, there are a few incentives for you to donate (beyond helping your local combat robotics organization keep running)! A $25 donation gets your name on a Nascar race truck this weekend!

With any donations raised, RABID plans to continue to grow as an organization. Our goal is to be able to hold more events like we did tonight getting robots in the hands of new competitors young and old, as well as just teaching the STEM that is involved in our sport.

We receive 75% of any donations made towards our cause with the other 25% going towards the NASCAR Foundation. They are a great organization aimed at improving the lives of children. Every race weekend they bring drivers to local hospitals to deliver teddy bears to sick children. They also run an accessible summer camp for children to help them get to feel like kids again.

If you are inclined to donate, our page is located here:

To my first responder, healthcare worker friends - if you or your colleagues need support I have some fantastic clinicians in my practice who you can trust to listen and meet you where you are at. We take most insurances and have flexible schedules. In person in lakeside and Powhatan or telehealth. We also offer something unique, the safe and sound protocol which can be helpful to worn out nervous systems šŸ™‚ We offer discounts on it for first responders/healthcare workers/therapists. It has been helpful with long covid too. 804-307-2801

Heart & Mind Therapy is working to Empower Connections by helping those struggling with adoption issues, anxiety, PTSD and relationships. We infuse neuroscience and regulation into our individual and family therapy work using trauma informed play therapy, attachment knowledge, EMDR and more.

Here are some examples of what neurodiversity-affirming parenting looks like. This is not an exhaustive list.

Important words are: respect, autonomy, value, self advocate, and wellbeing.

There are a lot of things that neurodivergent families do that would have other people puzzled or unimpressed. I’m sure many of you have had family or friends question or criticise the way you do things at home.

Here’s my take.

My kids deserve to feel happy and safe in their home.
They deserve to be authentic and joyful.
They deserve to have their needs met, and that includes their sensory preferences and sensitivities.
They deserve to have their opinions heard.

We do things in my house that work for us.
Does it make sense to everyone else?
Probably not, and I couldn’t care less.

When people come to my house, maybe they feel uncomfortable about the way we do some things. Maybe they feel uncomfortable about the way we all stim and play and interact and do mealtimes.

Guess what?
Don’t care.
They don’t live here.

I have a lot more to say about all this.
Not today, though. My brain is pretty done.

What would you add to this list?

This photo was taken back in 2010. This meme was made a few years later on my former page, Play Counts.

Evidence of learning absolutely does NOT need to be found on a worksheet or in a test score.

I believe evidence of learning should be either on a child, or exclaimed from a child, emerging in their ideas and in their play. Sometimes, I believe it lives quietly within them, because they cannot yet make sense of it, nor articulate it. But it's there.. just waiting for more pieces of information.

Children are constantly tucking away nuggets of knowledge so they can pull it out on another day, in a different situation and apply it.

Their knowledge is demonstrated in the things they choose to do, in the ideas they come up with, the resourcefulness they demonstrate, the intriguing way they view the world.

LISTEN to the children.... every last bit of them... the WHOLE child, and you will see all the evidence of learning.
