As many of you are aware, I have traditionally prioritized exceptional surgical skills in a surgeon, with emotional intelligence and bedside manner being secondary considerations. Nonetheless, I have been fortunate to have received care from some of the world's most skilled orthopedic surgeons and owe them a great deal of gratitude. However, being treated by a hip surgeon who is not only exceptionally skilled, but also kind, empathetic, and understanding of EDS, has surpassed all my expectations. Dr. Stefan Kreuzer is an Orthopaedic surgeon in Houston, TX. He specializes in Anterior hip replacement, MAKO (partial knee resurfacing) and computer-assisted hip knee replacement.

Took kids to see the orthodontist recommended by Dr. Nathan Pettit (Med Center TMJ) our TMJ specialist and the most trusted dental professional I’ve ever known. Many of you have probably heard me say I don’t do any dental work without Dr. Pettit’s blessing. So when helping me get kids get setup with an orthodontist, Lisa reached out to Dr. Pettit’s office for a recommendation and was given Dr. Wirthlin’s name since he is their family’s orthodontist. Dr. Wirthlin, his office & staff were all more than expected. He understands the oral complications of EDS and will even work with Dr. Pettit if needed to decrease jaw pain in those with TMJ dysfunction (which is everyone with EDS). Definitely worth the one hour drive for us to Missouri City.

On your first visit, we’ll take x-rays and digital impressions, discuss your treatment options, create a clear plan, and lay out your total costs & payment preferences. You’ll have all the information you need to get started.

Due to the current nationwide shortage of intravenous fluids, if you are in need of fluids, we recommend you call local and/or national pharmacies to see if intravenous fluids are available for your intended diagnoses: POTS/Dysautonomia with inappropriate sinus tachycardia, orthostatic hypotension and/or intolerances, which are regularly, daily fluid-dependent diagnoses. If they do have some IV fluids available and you would like us to send an e-script to them for these conditions, please email or call the clinic so that we may send an electronic prescription to this pharmacy. Good morning!! Since I’ve gotten numerous requests for updates on my condition from worried patients, friends and families, I’m doing okay this morning, despite being a little sore, quite tired and having a few new medical issues to follow up on. I’m definitely stable and pushing on though, operating one day at a time so I can be there for patient care & triage of clinical needs.
For those who prefer specific details here’s a little clinical update to give everyone some peace of mind:
I had a semi urgent central line removal and portacath placement yesterday with Vascular surgery to provide a reliable means of IV access for continued IV support for various chronic EDS/POTS conditions and acute needs that continue to plaque me a bit. It took a team of three nurses, a vein site machine and a few bruises to get a peripheral line established yesterday for surgery, but ultimately we got it and outstanding my home health/mobile care RN, Vicky Chang, was able to get another peripheral line on me at home to use until the port is cleared for access.
Unfortunately, the pre-op evaluation yesterday revealed some previously unrecognized issues, most of which we hope are the result of severe dehydration from losing venous access last week. Labs showed kidney insufficiency/failure, elevated WBC/lymphocytes with an identified infectious source (possibly continued fungal oral/esophageal infection), & EKG changes with unclear etiology. Working with my team of great doctors to evaluate and treat these conditions. So I’m definitely in good hands with the providers we all know & love, but also developing new sources of excellent medical providers to use with my patients in the future.
Meanwhile, Lisa Smith & Bailey Ledesma our very reliable, caring virtual medical support team continue to provide administrative assistance and getting appropriate clinical aid and medical triage for patients who need it. TeleMed visits with me will resume mid to late next week, assuming I have no further medical issues pop up.

Hi patients! We are unfortunately stuck in the phone and internet outage affecting the Richmond/Sugarland/Katy/Fulshear areas since yesterday morning. This means we do not have access to ANYTHING. Phones, voicemails, emails, patient charts and info, etc.
We will still be seeing our IV patients today and Thursday but all other patients will be contacted by Tabitha on her personal cell (please don’t use the number after this outage) to be rescheduled.
