It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Ms. Gay Moore. Ms. Gay had been at Ellwood House for almost 30 years and has helped raise so many Baby Birds over the years. Ms. Gay will be missed tremendously. A service will be held for Ms. Gay on Monday January 26th at 11am- Wilson and Associates Funeral Home 5004 Nine Mile Road Richmond VA, 23223. Thank you to everyone who has called, emailed, sent flowers and food, etc. Thank you for your compassion and understanding as we take the time to grieve and support each other.

Today we say goodbye to a person that made every child feel like they were special. From her time at Tuckaway-Harbor when it opened in 1984, to when she went to Tuckaway-Barony until her retirement just a few years ago, she always had a smile and a caring approach for anyone that came to Tuckaway.

"Miss Betty" passed away on November 6th at the age of 92. Her funeral service will be held at Woody Funeral Home at 1771 North Parham Road in the West End of Henrico County, today (Friday, November 21), at 1:00pm.

Betty will always have a place in the hearts of all that met her!

Our Story

Located in the heart of Carytown, Ellwood House has been a staple of Fan life for over 20 years! Ellwood House's children come from diverse cultures and backgrounds, and its incredible and enthusiastic staff, directed by Cristin McKnight, truly love what they do. Strong family involvement adds to the community feel of Ellwood House, and parents often drop by for visits with their children during the day.

Ellwood House offers the largest private playground in the city, to allow your child to fully enjoy the outdoors in a secure environment. While Ellwood House does not have its own swimming pool, children visit other nearby Tuckaway schools two or three times a week during the summer to enjoy some fun pool time. Tuckaway's pools are carefully monitored by teachers and certified lifeguards, and Tuckaway provides swimming lessons at no additional cost.

Like all of the Tuckaway locations, Ellwood House's chef always provides family-style dining, with warm home-cooked meals prepared in its very own kitchen. All of Tuckaway's menus are prepared according to USDA guidelines.

When you visit Ellwood House, come to our main entrance around back next to the free parking deck.
