Why Morihei Ueshiba Was Called O‑Sensei.

In Japanese, “O-Sensei” (大先生) literally means “Great Teacher.”But this title was not something Morihei Ueshiba claimed for himself, it was a name given by his students and successors out of deep respect.

Ueshiba was more than a martial arts instructor:
• He embodied martial mastery, uniting weapon training and empty-hand techniques.
• He taught spiritual depth, seeing Aikido as a path of harmony and universal connection.
• He became a living example of discipline, compassion, and unwavering purpose.

For this reason, calling him O‑Sensei was not just about rank, it was an acknowledgment of his role as the founder and guiding spirit of Aikido.

A true title is not worn, it is earned through legacy.

🧱 What is Kihon?

Kihon (基本) means “foundation” or “fundamental.”
In martial arts, it refers to the basic forms, movements, and principles that must be repeated—over and over—until they become second nature.

It’s not “just for beginners.”
Kihon is the root. The structure. The training that keeps your technique alive when everything else fails.

In Iwama Ryū, we don’t rush to the advanced.
We go deep into kihon—because that’s where the real Aikido lives.

🔴 Mastery is not doing many things.
It is doing the right things—correctly, consistently, and with full spirit.

What is Aiki Jinja?

Aiki Jinja is the Shinto shrine built by Morihei Ueshiba in Iwama, Japan.
It is not just a monument—it is a sacred space that reflects the spiritual heart of Aikido.

Constructed by O-Sensei himself, stone by stone, the shrine honors the kami (spiritual forces) and serves as a place of daily prayer and purification.

O-Sensei believed that Aikido was not merely a martial technique, but a path of harmony between heaven, earth, and humanity. Aiki Jinja stands as a physical manifestation of that vision.

🔴 To walk the path of Aikido is to walk with reverence, not only for technique—but for the spirit that gives it life.

Lineage Matters

In martial arts, lineage is not about ego.
It’s about credibility, responsibility, and integrity.

Who taught you?
Who taught your teacher?
What path are you continuing?

A clear, verifiable lineage ensures that what you practice is not improvisation, it is transmission.
It means the spirit, the technique, and the ethics of the art have not been diluted.

🔴 Without lineage, martial arts become theater.
With lineage, they become legacy.

Ken. Jo. Taijuts = One Path.

In Aikido Iwama Ryū, training is divided into three forms that are not separate, but deeply connected:

🗡️ Aiki-Ken (合気剣)
The wooden sword (bokken) teaches distance, intention, and the direction of ki. Each cut sharpens the mind.

🪵 Aiki-Jo (合気杖)
The long staff (jo) develops rhythm, adaptability, and fluid connection. It teaches how to blend, not collide.

🤝 Taijutsu (体術)
Empty-handed technique. The direct encounter. This is where the ken and jo come alive through the body.

🔴 Nori ai (乗り合い) – “riding together” – is the spirit that binds all three.
They are not mastered apart. They are integrated.

The Parts of the Bokken (木剣)

The bokken is not a stick.
It is a wooden sword.
And as such, each part has a name, a function, and meaning:
• Kissaki (切っ先) – The tip. Represents intention and reach.
• Monouchi (物打ち) – The upper third of the blade. Ideal striking zone.
• Shinogi (鎬) – The imaginary edge. Where the direction of the cut is born.
• Mine (峰) – The spine of the blade. The counterbalance to the edge.
• Tsuka (柄) – The handle. The point of connection between sword and spirit.
• Tsuka-gashira (柄頭) – The butt of the handle. Anchor of the sword’s energy.

Knowing your tool is not formality.
It is respect. It is budō.

More Than the Body.

🥋 In traditional martial arts, the body is only the entry point.

You train the steps, the strikes, the falls…
But as you do, you’re also training other things:

🧠 The mind that learns to focus.
❤️ The ego that learns to yield.
🫁 The heart that learns to breathe through chaos.

Because Budō doesn’t shape athletes.
It shapes people who are more centered, humble, and awake.

🔴 The body strengthens.
But the spirit… transforms.

SENKI – Spirit of Combat in Times of Peace

“When you already have what you wanted,
do you keep fighting, or do you give up?”

Senki isn’t only for the days of war.
It’s for Monday morning.
When the alarm goes off.
When you already have a job… but must keep growing.
When you’re in a relationship… but must keep nurturing it.

Peace without spirit turns into weakness.
