Shadow Box Memorial Workshop – Rockcastle County

We hope you can join us for this free workshop in Rockcastle County later this month. Together, we’ll create shadow boxes as a way to honor and remember our loved ones.

The workshop will take place on Tuesday, September 24 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Rockcastle Co. Extension Office located at 1050 W. Main Street in Mt. Vernon.

This workshop is a time of creativity, reflection, and connection with others who understand the journey of grief. Bring pictures, trinkets and any small mementos that remind you of your loved one(s) and we'll supply the frame and all crafting supplies to make your shadowbox.

Space is limited, so visit www.hospicecareplus.org to pre-register. You may also contact Denise McKinney, Grief & Loss Support Coordinator, at (859) 986-1500 or by email at grief@hospicecp.org.

We're back with another "Myth Busting Monday".

One of the most common myths we hear is that choosing hospice means giving up hope. But the truth is: Hospice care is not about giving up. It is about shifting the focus from curing an illness to enhancing comfort, dignity, and quality of life. At Hospice Care Plus, we help patients live each day as fully as possible by managing pain and symptoms, providing emotional and spiritual support, and ensuring families have the guidance and resources they need.

Hope doesn’t disappear with hospice. It becomes hope for peace, comfort, time with loved ones, and meaningful moments of connection.

Hospice means living well, on your own terms, surrounded by support.
To learn more about our care and services, how to refer a loved one, or how to get involved as a donor or volunteer, please visit www.hospicecareplus.org or give us a call at 859-986-1500.

40-Day “Draw the Circle” Challenge
September 7 – October 16, 2025

Inspired by the book Draw the Circle by Mark Batterson and her own experience with the 40-day challenge, Hospice Care Plus Chaplain Junann Johnson is now inviting you to participate in a 40-day Draw the Circle challenge. This can take many forms—prayer, meditation, journaling, or any other quiet practice that helps you pause and reflect.

Each day of the challenge offers an opportunity to focus and reflect on the mission of and the people we serve here at Hospice Care Plus.

“I believe that the next forty days have the potential to make a positive impact on our organization.” — Junann Johnson

If you’d like to participate in the challenge and follow along with Junann, she has prepared printed materials featuring concepts and passages from Batterson’s book geared specifically focusing on our work here at Hospice Care Plus. These are available to pick up at our Compassionate Care Center (350 Isaacs Lane, Richmond, KY).

For more information, feel free to contact Junann by calling 859-986-1500.

Today is National Grief Awareness Day.

It’s a time to acknowledge that grief looks different for everyone and that healing doesn’t follow a schedule.

At Hospice Care Plus, we know that the journey can feel lonely. We are grateful to walk alongside those experiencing loss, and surround them with support and compassion. One of the people who makes that possible is our Grief & Loss Support Coordinator, Denise McKinney.

In her role, Denise offers comfort, support, and a safe space for families and individuals to navigate the many emotions that come with grief. Whether it’s through one-on-one support, group gatherings, workshops or simply being present, Denise reminds us all that no one has to walk their journey alone.

If you or someone you love is dealing with loss, we’re here. On this day and every day.

To learn more about all our services, or to contact Denise about joining a grief support gathering, please visit hospicecareplus.org or call 859-986-1500.

Hopeful, Expert, Compassionate Care

We take pride in hopeful, compassionate, expert care that recognizes that life continues even when there is no cure. We work with you, your caregiver, your family, and your doctors to control symptoms at home so you can focus on what matters: what you want life to look like for the next several months. What do you want to do and experience? Where do you want to be? What are you fighting for, working towards, planning for, and how can we help you get there?

Whether you’re part of our hospice or palliative programs, and regardless of whether your care is in your home or at our Compassionate Care Center, our goal is simple: to help you achieve the highest quality of life and to support your caregiver and family. We emphasize dignity, hope, and compassion as we provide specialized medical and team care to manage pain, symptoms, and other challenges.

We work alongside patients and families to make every moment matter. Read more about us at www.hospicecareplus.org, or savor inspiring stories of our patients, families, and staff as they pursue bucket-list wishes together--truly making every moment matter-- at www.hcpblogs.com. Then, contact us: learn about our programs, become a volunteer, apply for employment, give your financial support, or interact with us on Facebook.

We are a non-profit hospice serving Madison, Estill, Jackson, Lee, Owsley and Rockcastle counties. We offer both hospice and palliative care as well as a bereavement program. We also own and operate the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, a short-term inpatient hospice facility for symptom management and respite care.
