Rx Partnership is grateful for the legacy of William S. Cooper, Sr. the first Black graduate of the Pharmacy School at the Medical College of Virginia, now VCU School of Pharmacy.

Come to Rx Partnership's event at the Black History Museum of Virginia on March 6 and see the Maymont Pharmacy delivery bicycle like the one "Doc" Cooper used. The special exhibit A Prescription for Change: Black Voices Shaping Healthcare in Virginia features inspirational stories of healthcare professionals like Bill Cooper who dedicated their lives to helping others.

The number of people living in "pharmacy deserts" in Virginia is increasing higher than the national average. 20 counties in Virginia have only one pharmacy or none at all. Pharmacy deserts also tend to be in low-income areas and regions, forcing the people with the least amount of resources to work harder to get their medications.

Rx Partnership envisions a Virginia where EVERYONE has access to the medication they need. Rx Partnership is committed to breaking down barriers to equitable access to healthcare. Learn more at www.RxPartnership.org.

Medical debt from unaffordable medications is a leading cause of bankruptcy in the U.S. When people are struggling financially, those who need prescription medication to get and stay healthy will skip doses, or they will go without altogether.

Rx Partnership increases medication access for vulnerable people in Virginia. Learn more at RxPartnership.org.

Hurry and claim your space in our free webinar looking at the recent executive actions and what they will mean for charitable nonprofits. The last couple weeks have been a whirlwind for many nonprofits, from the more than 100 Executive Orders (EOs) issued by President Trump to the confusion about the funding freeze ordered in a memo from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). While a judge granted a Temporary Restraining Order in the case filed by the National Council of Nonprofits and others, and OMB rescinded the memo, the EOs are still in effect, and charitable nonprofits with federal grants are still feeling the impact of these decisions.

Born into slavery in 1813, James McCune Smith was not only the first African American to earn a medical degree but also the first black pharmacist in the United States.

Dr. Smith opened his own pharmacy in New York City, becoming a leader in the abolitionist movement and using his platform to fight for equality. His life was a testament to resilience, brilliance, and the power of breaking down walls.

Rx Partnership celebrates the legacy of Dr. Smith and his contributions to medicine, to pharmacy, and to civil rights.

In Virginia, 1 in 4 people face a heartbreaking reality: they cannot afford the prescription medications they need to stay healthy.

The odds are high that there is someone you know who is deciding right now whether or not to take their medications due to the high price. There is probably someone you know who has decided that buying groceries for their kids is more important than keeping up with their own prescriptions.

Rx Partnership is stepping up to change this, but we need your help. Learn how to double your impact at www.RxPartnership.org.

If Medicaid expansion in Virginia is cut, it will create more pressure on the free clinics and the organizations like Rx Partnership to carry the weight of those losing their coverage. Rx Partnership knows how important access to medication and health care services is for people in Virginia. "Many individuals could lose health insurance if Medicaid funding is reduced, and not all of those people would get coverage other ways."

Since the November election, Republican leaders at the federal level have shown themselves to be open to making cuts to Medicaid.

December 12th is Universal Health Coverage Day, as designated by the United Nations. Universal health coverage means that all people have access to the full range of quality health services they need, when and where they need them, without financial hardship. For Rx Partnership, that means access to affordable prescription medication.

The high cost of health services is the primary reason people miss out on essential health care. These costs often force families to choose between paying for medicines or a visit to the doctor and other necessities, such as food, housing and education.

Health costs should never push people into poverty! Investing in universal health coverage - including medication access - makes people and communities healthier.
