Does my child need their tonsils removed? As parents, you might wonder if your child's frequent sore throats or loud snoring means it's time for a tonsillectomy. Our friends at Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU recently shared some helpful insights from a pediatric ENT’s perspective and we wanted to pass this information along!

PAR is now pleased to expand our COVID-19 vaccine administration. In compliance with FDA approvals and the CDC-recommended "shared clinical decision-making" model, we are offering the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to any patient whose parent would like their child vaccinated.

If you are interested in vaccinating your child, please submit a vaccine appointment request on our website via parpeds.com/appointments. Parents wishing to vaccinate a child without a high risk condition will have a brief, no-copay consultation with a PAR provider prior to vaccine administration.

Global Handwashing Day feels like the right time to send a reminder that proper cleansing is so important to help prevent the spread of germs. Wet, lather, scrub, rinse, dry — a five-step routine recommended by the CDC.

Here’s a link for more information on hand hygiene: https://www.cdc.gov/clean-hands/globalhandwashingday/

Today is World Mental Health Day — a day dedicated to raising awareness about mental health and reducing the stigma often surrounding it. As pediatricians, we understand how important it is to support both children's emotional and physical health. If you have concerns about your child's mental health or behavior, please reach out to our office. Early intervention and support can make a tremendous difference. 💚

We are happy to announce that we will soon begin our COVID-19 vaccine rollout, by offering the Moderna vaccine to our high-risk patients. In this phase, we are only vaccinating eligible patients, but as more information is available to us, we will update our patients on any changes to eligibility. Once we have received the vaccines in our office, we will notify patients that we are scheduling appointments.

As of July, the FDA has only approved the COVID vaccine for use in individuals under age 65 who have one or more underlying health conditions. The Center for Disease Control has published an extensive list of qualifying, underlying conditions. We have simplified the list for our patient population.

Eligibility criteria for the 2025-2026 season COVID-19 vaccine:

Asthma
Cancer
Cerebrovascular Disease
Chronic kidney, liver, heart or lung disease
Congenital Malformations
Diabetes
Genetic conditions
Heart Conditions
HIV
Immunocompromised
Mental Health Conditions (Depression, mood disorders)
Mobility impairment
Movement disorders
Neurodevelopmental disorders
Neuromuscular disorders
Neurological Disorders
Obesity
Organ Transplant
Tuberculosis
Visual impairment/blindness

For the complete list, please visit: https://www.cdc.gov/covid/hcp/clinical-care/underlying-conditions.html

Thank you for your patience and we will continue to send updates on availability.
