Our Story
VCU is hosting its fourth annual HealthHacks competition on November 2nd & 3rd, 2019 at VCU College of Engineering. HealthHacks is a medical hackathon where students from multiple disciplines come together to learn, design, and create real solutions for unmet medical needs. HealthHacks encourages students of any field – engineering, arts and sciences, humanities, business, medicine, and allied health – to identify real problems and collaborate on solutions that can be taken to the next level. With workshops and mentors throughout the day, multidisciplinary teams of hardworking students will build medical breakthroughs at healthacks!
This year's theme: Pharmaceutical Innovations for Patient Care. Pharmaceuticals touch every aspect and age in healthcare and are versatile tools that physicians use to treat patients. The HealthHacks challenges for 2019 will explore creating new methods, devices and tools that could potentially revolutionize patient care. Industry and academic sponsors will present real-world challenges to all hackers on day 1. Teams of students from diverse backgrounds — including engineering, computer science, business, design and health professions — will come up with solutions to those challenges to make it easier and safer to deliver medications. Team solutions may be physical technologies, software designs and/or products to assist physicians, pharmacists and caregivers in managing patient medications. We encourage all students to participate and no prior hackathon experience is required. Registration for the event is now open for all undergraduate and graduate students at http://healthhacks.vcu.edu/ If you would like further information on this event or have any questions, please contact the HealthHacks Project Coordinator, Laura Osborne, at 804-828-0349 or lmnosborne@vcu.edu.
