If this is your view while you’re trying to work from home - boy do I see you, mama. Work doesn’t stop for sick days so we somehow figure out how to do it all. Sick sleepy kid on our lap alongside the laptop, stroking their hair while writing up a report, while also dreaming up Christmas magic in the days to come … if this is you, hugs - you got this. Just make sure you’re taking time for you, too, to recuperate. Above all, you’re doing a GREAT job. I hope you truly know that 🩵

Anyone else down for the count with illness in their house?

This year, I invite you to skip the holiday perfectionism and instead choose cognitive flexibility, self-compassion, and a body that feels regulated - not overwhelmed.

Also go check whatever you have in the oven - I know you forgot about it while doom scrolling in an attempt to self regulate 😘😅

Fist buuuuuuump for the big win!!!
Assertive communication is so hard - SO HARD - so when someone finally goes all in and sets boundaries or lets their needs be known and it pays off …. Major fist bumps all around. I live for these moments when my clients trust me enough to give it a try and it pays off. And when it doesn’t … we process that. And we still validate and celebrate the hard work in trying anyways because damn, that’s hard!

Control the controllable. Express your needs. When it gets tricky - that’s what therapy is for.

I don’t just want to hear the successes. I want to hear the messy, vulnerable, hard things. Things like:
“No that’s not right I don’t think you understand”
“I don’t know”
“I’m scared you’ll judge me for this”

These moments show trust and courage. You don’t have to have it all figured out to do the work. You just have to show up.

Here for you if you’re ready to show up 🩵

new post on the blog!
we could all use a little self-compassion :)

Self-compassion isn’t about ignoring your flaws or feelings. It’s about noticing them, stepping back, and choosing a kind response. But how do we do that?

About a year ago, I finally decided to open my own private practice and start seeing “a few clients” on the side while I also worked at the VA in a chronic pain clinic. When the layoffs and deferred resignations came rolling in for remote workers, I pivoted to making my private practice full time. I enjoyed my work with my private practice clients immensely, and I am forever grateful I had that option to pivot in the first place. Now, it has allowed me to move into academia as a program director and faculty member in a graduate psychology program - one of my dreams.

I have learned so much from my clients in this short year. I thought I would always work in the hospital setting, and never dreamed I would go into private practice. I am so grateful for the trust my clients have put in me, and their vulnerability in pursuit of healing. I am a better clinician for it. I am constantly seeking out additional trainings, research articles, and consultation - all to better serve my clients. I have never felt so challenged yet fulfilled as I do with my private practice clients.

So here’s 3 cheers to many more years of helping, healing, and growing! Beyond appreciative to you all - thank you for allowing me to be part of your journey 🩵 let’s keep going!
