Yesterday was rainy and gloomy—the kind of day that made the world feel small and slow. And while I’m reminding myself to welcome those days, to embrace the cold and the gray, I also recognize how much they make me appreciate the warmth and sunshine even more.
Winter is long and dark—it can be isolating, unmotivating, a quiet invitation to rest. A reminder, much like autumn’s falling leaves, that letting go is part of renewal.

Now, as spring stirs outside my window, I’m reminded that life moves in seasons—something I often share with the pregnant and postpartum people I support. These transitions can be beautiful, but they can also be overwhelming and exhausting. I know this, I hold space for others in it, and yet, I still need the reminder myself. The weight of the world can feel heavy some days.

Before stepping into my work today, I took a moment to reconnect with the world around me. A deep breath. A quiet pause. It was exactly what I needed to refill my cup—so I could show up fully for those who need me.

How did you fill your cup today?

I got a text from my daughter this week, who just started a reproductive health class in college, and it really made me appreciate the moment. Parenting often feels like a mix of hope and uncertainty—wondering if we’re getting it right, or if things are really sinking in. So to hear that something we’ve talked about has stuck with her is a reminder that some of those important conversations do make a difference. It’s a small but meaningful moment of reassurance.

Wow, it’s been a minute since I posted! Time for a proper update and maybe a little intro for anyone new around here.

I’m Cristina—wife/partner/bestie & mom of three humans and a cat. I’ve got two adult kids—one’s married, the other’s in college—and they’re both pretty awesome. I also have a younger one still in primary school. She’s full of energy, super curious, and has the wildest imagination. Honestly, she’s the little gift the universe sent to complete our family.

We recently made the move from Richmond, VA to the beautiful Farmington Valley area of Connecticut. For the past 12 years, I have been working in maternal health, starting as a doula supporting clients through labor. I loved being in the birth space, witnessing incredible transformations and strength. A few years ago, I shifted my focus to pregnancy and postpartum care, and it’s honestly become my heart’s work ever since.

These days, my work is virtual, which has allowed me to support families across the country, not just locally. While I’ll always cherish my time in the birth room, I’m currently loving the balance of offering “everything but the birth.” It’s been the perfect way to stay connected to my passion while being more present for my family—truly a win-win for all of us.

If you’ve made it this far—thank you for showing up! I’m excited for what’s ahead, including new offerings and the chance to connect with more incredible families this year. See you soon!

My Story

I’m Cristina Evans and I came to birth work following my journey into motherhood. I had experiences that left me feeling confident and empowered. At the time, I learned that for many people this was not the norm. I found out that people felt like their wishes weren’t being heard & that they were having their babies and going home feeling deflated. I decided that this wasn’t acceptable. In my search for information about how to support people through this time in their lives, I came across Doulas of North America (DONA). Something clicked in a way that hadn’t before and I thought that this how I should be supporting people through their own journeys into parenthood. Supporting a friend through her birth solidified this thought, and in 2012 I was able to attend a DONA birth doula training. I started attending births soon after my training and have felt so privileged to be part of this time in my client’s lives. It’s amazing to witness that transformation that can happen during labor. Being a doula is about more than the birth itself. It’s about the journey and supporting the most important people in the new baby's (or babies') life. It’s nurturing those who will be caring for this life because the connection during this time can bring them closer, create a stronger bond, and increase the confidence they feel as new parents.

I truly believe that when we feel heard, supported, and that we have a voice, we not only think more positively about birth (even if it doesn't go according to "plan"), but also often enter parenthood with more confidence.

The birth of my most recent child reminded me of the importance of the fourth trimester. This time that follows the birth of our babies is often overlooked and understated. It’s a sacred time of connection and bonding. It’s a time to embrace your intuitive self. This time in my own life has allowed me to expand my focus a little. In addition to supporting births, I am proud to be offering planning sessions as part of my services.

It doesn’t matter where you are in your pregnancy. Now is the perfect time to create the web of support that you need throughout this transitional time in your life. Let’s talk. You can view my current availability on DoulaMatch.net.
