Legal Aid Health Care Navigators and Norma Ryan, Medicaid specialist with VAHCF, will be at Meadowdale Library (4301 Meadowdale Boulevard, North Chesterfield, VA) from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. offering free, unbiased help to sign up for health insurance.

Important information:

• Open Enrollment for 2026 with the Marketplace health coverage ends January 30.

• Clients can get in-person assistance reviewing their options and applying for health coverage before the deadline.

• Walk-ins are welcome, or can call 804-200-6035 for information or to book an appointment another day or on a Saturday.

• People eligible for Medicaid can sign up all year long but we will be offering assistance for those eligible for Medicaid.

Did you know that cervical cancer is highly treatable when caught early?

This January, for Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, we are focusing on the power of prevention. Through regular screenings and the HPV vaccine, we have the tools to significantly reduce the impact of this disease in our community.

This week begins Cancer Screen Week from Dec. 5-9, a time to raise awareness about early cancer detection and prevention. The advancement of early cancer screenings has played a crucial role in lowering the cancer death rate since 1991 with more screenings available earlier for a wider variety of cancers.

Cancer screening saves lives and helps prevent the empty chairs around the holidays. I encourage you and your family to take control of your health and get screened. You can find out more about screenings at Massey.

Screening tests can help find cancer at an early stage, before symptoms appear. When abnormal tissue or cancer is found early, it may be easier to treat or cure. By the time symptoms appear, the cancer may have grown and spread. This can make the cancer harder to treat or cure.
