🎧Being Heard
This is about attention.
• “You listened to the words I said.”
• No judgment, no interpretation — just presence.
• It’s the experience of someone giving space, not fixing or debating.
Example: “I hear that you’re frustrated that the project timeline changed.”
This doesn’t mean you understand the frustration or agree with it — only that you caught the message.
🧠Being Understood
This is about accurate meaning.
• “You not only heard me, but you grasp what I’m trying to express.”
• It requires reflection, paraphrasing, or checking in.
• Understanding can happen even when perspectives differ.
Example: “So you’re saying the timeline change made you feel blindsided because you weren’t consulted. Is that right?”
Understanding is cognitive. Agreement is evaluative.
🤝 Agreement
This is about alignment of viewpoint or decision.
• “You and I share the same conclusion or stance.”
• Agreement is optional — hearing and understanding are not.
• You can understand someone deeply and still disagree respectfully.
Example: “I understand why you felt blindsided. I see it differently, but your reaction makes sense.”
