Building a career where you trained is a testament to both the quality of care and the strength of the team.

Meet Samantha (Sam) Sasek, a radiologic technologist who has been with Ray County Hospital and Healthcare for 13 years. Sam completed her training at Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley and did her clinical rotations right here at Ray County Hospital. She enjoyed it so much that she was hired full-time in August 2013.

Sam's path to healthcare was personal. "I knew I wanted to work in healthcare when my family began to have medical issues. Family I hold very close to my heart and I wanted to learn more about health and how I can help my family and others."

What motivates Sam at work? "The daily challenges of healthcare and working together with all others as a close team. I treat everyone as if they are family, which is very important to me."

Sam values the variety of work at Ray County Hospital. "In a small rural hospital, it's important to be flexible and have the skills to provide patients with several different types of exams." She also gives back to her alma mater by supporting students who train here, just as she once did.

We talk a lot about mammograms and cervical cancer screenings, and those matter. But colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers among both men and women, and it deserves just as much attention.

The good news? It's also one of the most preventable.

If you're 45 or older, routine screening can find polyps before they ever turn into cancer. No symptoms required. No waiting for something to feel wrong.

Talk to your doctor about your options. Some screenings can even be done from home.

What's a CT scan, and when might you need one? Let's break it down.

A CT (Computed Tomography) scan uses advanced imaging to create detailed cross-sectional images of your body. It's like looking at slices through a loaf of bread—we can see detailed views of bones, soft tissues, and blood vessels all at once.

Your physician might order a CT scan for:
• Emergency situations (trauma, severe pain, stroke symptoms)
• Diagnosing unexplained symptoms
• Cancer detection and monitoring
• Surgical planning
• Follow-up on known conditions

Our Siemens 64-slice system captures these detailed images in minutes while minimizing radiation exposure. The result? Your physician gets the information they need quickly to guide your treatment.

Have questions about an upcoming CT scan? We're here to help: 816-470-5432
