Tomorrow marks one whole year since Dr. Prince, Taryn, and Maddie rescued little Rocket — and what a journey it’s been! ❤️🐾

On October 24, 2024, Madison County Animal Control brought in a tiny 5–6-week-old kitten they found at the old Richmond Mall. His front leg had gotten stuck in a bench, and it was badly broken. He weighed only 1.6 pounds — so small that he truly shouldn’t have survived surgery.

But our team couldn’t let him go without a chance. 💪
Maddie covered the cost of surgery, Dr. Prince performed his amputation (miraculously successful!), and Maddie fostered him through recovery. Two weeks later, Taryn officially adopted him — and Rocket’s been living his best life ever since.

From a stray baby to a full-fledged member of the Advanced Animal Care family, Rocket is a reminder of why we do what we do every day. 🩷✨

Here’s to our sweet tripod boy who stole all our hearts — Happy Rescue Anniversary, Rocket! 🚀🐱

🐾 Hospital Week at AAC Emergency 🐾
This week, we celebrate every single member of our incredible team — the techs, assistants, CSRs, kennel crew, doctors, and everyone who keeps this place running 24/7. 💙

While National Vet Tech Week inspired it, we call it Hospital Week because at AACER, it truly takes all of us.

Our owners give us a generous budget to make this week special — but what makes it extra meaningful is how our doctors and team leads also pitch in, plan surprises, and go above and beyond to spoil their crew.

From the gifts and food to the laughter and late-night shifts — we’re endlessly thankful for this team and everything they pour into caring for pets and their people every single day. 💙🐶🐱

Overnight Lead Kate went above and beyond to make sure our whole team could sharpen their skills! 🐾 She led a comprehensive restraint training, breaking it into multiple sessions so every team member had the chance to attend and practice hands-on.

Proper restraint is one of the most important skills in veterinary medicine—it keeps our patients safe, minimizes stress, and protects our team from injury. By working together to master safe handling techniques, we can provide the best care possible for every pet that comes through our doors, no matter the situation.

Behind the scenes of today’s hands-on lab with Dr. Crabtree!🩺
Our team spent the afternoon sharpening skills in electrocautery and endoscopy, learning how to better serve our patients with precision and confidence. We’re grateful for leaders like Dr. Crabtree who invest in teaching and growing our entire team!💙

Our Story

In the 1950’s our founder Jim Martin was just a child. One day he found a dog that had been hit by a car and he wanted to save it but he didn’t know how. There was no veterinarian to call in his poverty stricken coal mining town. It was in that moment that he knew when grew up he was going to become a veterinarian. He knew even as a child that he wanted to be the one that people could call day or night to save an animals life.

Martin was the first Berea College graduate to be accepted into Auburn College of Veterinary Medicine.

In 1973 a first generation college graduate became Dr. Jim Martin, and was one of only three in his class to open his own hospital. His dream was to make sure no one ever had to see an animal suffer because there was no one to call.
