JFS recently hosted a special event to honor our amazing volunteers and interns. Participants had the opportunity to engage in hands-on training and hear from a knowledgeable speaker from the Alzheimer’s Association.

JFS is proud to continue supporting our Ukrainian clients through our Welcome to America program, which held its 29th meeting on October 17.

This month’s session featured immigration lawyers from New Haven, CT, who generously shared their expertise and answered important questions about immigration processes. Participants also enjoyed learning about Jewish holidays and traditions, as well as a fun raffle, prizes and delicious food.

We’re especially grateful to everyone who helps make these gatherings possible.

On Wednesday, JFS had the pleasure of welcoming Becky Page, a member of the Board of Directors at the Memorial Foundation for Children (MFC). Becky visited to present the foundation’s check for their grant, which will support JFS programs serving children and youth in foster care and counseling.

Last Sunday, members of Richmond’s Ukrainian community were warmly welcomed by First Presbyterian Church.

As one of our dedicated international outreach partners, First Presbyterian continues to live out their mission of compassion and inclusion by opening their doors and hearts to those rebuilding their lives in a new home.

Last week, JFS Richmond was invited to the Chickahominy Tribal Center to participate in the Elders' Brown Bag Lunch and Learn.

We were able to share a meal and speak with both Tribal staff and elders about the CAPABLE program and other JFS service offerings. A special thank you to Lindsey Johnson, BS, CPC, THRP for helping make this happen and our Gerontology intern, Morgan Carr, for setting up our information table!

When Mary Kay Lane joined the CAPABLE program, her goal was simple but powerful: to walk into her neighborhood 7-Eleven and enjoy a Slurpee without fear of falling.

Thanks to her hard work, the support of JFS Richmond, Beth Sholom Senior Living and the CAPABLE team, Lane recently achieved her goal. She walked in, got her Slurpee and walked out safely.

Morgan spent the day exploring Richmond’s senior care community:

1️⃣ Chesterfield Council on Aging Meeting: connected with local experts Jamie Smiley, OT with Benchmark Solutions, and Kim Graves, Manager of Aging & Disability Resources.
2️⃣ Long Term Care Leaders Gathering at Dover Hall: learned, got inspired and strengthened skills to care for seniors.
3️⃣ Chestnut Grove Assisted Living Renovation Celebration: toured the updated facility and enjoyed gift bags! Special thanks to Marketing Director Kathy DeStories and the Chestnut Grove Assisted Living team.
