President Dallin H. Oaks is the new president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints!

Here are some things about President Oaks that you may not have known:

-Before he was an Apostle, he was a lawyer, a Utah Supreme Court justice, and a president of Brigham Young University.
- He was born in Provo, Utah.
- He was named after a Utah artist named Cyrus Dallin, of whom his mother was a big fan.
- The "H" stands for "Harris," his mother's maiden name.
- President Oaks got his first job at age 11 because his father had passed away and his family needed money. The job? Sweeping out a radio repair shop.
- That's what got President Oaks interested in radio. He worked as a radio announcer and got his radio operator's license before he was 16!

His life experiences have shaped the profound counsel he offers to all disciples of Christ.

“Following Christ is not a casual or occasional practice. It is a continuous commitment and way of life that should guide us at all times and in all places. His teachings and His example define the path for every disciple of Jesus Christ. And all are invited to this path.” (“Following Christ”, general conference, Oct. 2024)

President Dallin H. Oaks was announced today as the 18th President and Prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The announcement was made during a live broadcast from Salt Lake City, Utah. President Oaks was sustained and set apart today, October 14, 2025.

In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the prophet is chosen through a divinely inspired process. When the prophet passes away, the First Presidency is dissolved, and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, led by the longest-serving Apostle, assumes leadership, confirming the new Prophet through revelation and priesthood authority.

President Oaks, 93, succeeds President Russell M. Nelson, who passed away September 27, 2025.

The new leader of a global faith of more than 17 million members has called President Henry B. Eyring, 92, and President D. Todd Christofferson, 80 to serve with him as first and second counselors in the First Presidency, the Church’s highest governing body.

President Oaks also announced that President Jeffrey R. Holland, 84, will be the President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/president-oaks-new-first-presidency

September was a truly special month, filled with meaningful service and expressions of Christlike love. We are deeply grateful for the incredible efforts of the members of the Richmond Stake. Your dedication and compassion have made a lasting impact. Please take a moment to view our newsletter and witness the many inspiring acts of service that took place.

This month also brought moments of reflection as we honored the life and legacy of our beloved Prophet, President Russell M. Nelson. He touched so many lives locally and globally. We thank our Heavenly Father for blessing us with such a devoted servant.

He reminded us:
"The Savior's message is clear: His true disciples build, lift, encourage, persuade, and inspire-no matter how difficult the situation. True disciples of Jesus Christ are peacemakers."
-President Nelson

We love and appreciate each of you.

With love,
The Stake Communications Committee
