What is Tai Chi, really?
Many people think of Tai Chi only as a martial art, but its meaning is much deeper.
In Chinese philosophy, Tai Chi (Taiji) refers to the supreme balance, the living harmony between Yin and Yang, the two complementary forces that make up all life. It represents the dynamic equilibrium where opposites meet and support one another: soft and strong, still and moving, inhaling and exhaling.

Within the body, we can think of the Tai Chi axis as that place of centered balance, when our breath is steady, our mind is calm, and our body moves with ease. It’s the feeling of being grounded yet light, stable yet fluid.
Tai Chi Chuan, on the other hand, is the martial art form that expresses this philosophy through a series of flowing movements. Many of these movements grew out of Qigong practices designed to cultivate and circulate Qi (life force energy), improve health, and develop internal strength.
So when we practice Qigong or Tai Chi Flow, we’re not simply learning movements.
We are learning how to return to that Tai Chi state within ourselves.
the place where Yin and Yang come back into harmony,
where the body feels balanced, the breath is smooth,
and the mind becomes clear and present.
This is the heart of the practice.
✨ A gentle reminder that balance is not something we force…
it’s something we cultivate and return to.

Im off from teaching for the week, recharging my batteries and nurturing my Qi.
Today I took my dog on a beautiful hike along all the connecting trails above Abrams Park in Ridgefield. I tried to take a shortcut and ended up doing some serious hiking back up the dead end hill that I traveled down. Wow, intense...
Its been years since ive done hiking like this and im so thankful that my body allowed me to show up and conquer.
Healing is an endless journey but what a beautiful ride it is. ✨️🫶
Join Anna this evening for Chi·Lates at the Yoga Ridge, 6:30-7:30. She will guide you through a beautiful Chi·Lates practice focused on Core & Balance.
