S*x Ther

apy- I am an AASECT Certified S*x Therapist & provide my clients a s*x positive, open forum to discuss this very private topic. In our sessions, we explore the possibilities of reconnection for emotional and physical intimacy, As aa Certified S*x Therapist, I have advanced training in relationships including LGBTQ issues, gender & s*xual orientation concerns,, trauma and post-traumatic growth, s*x and disability, kink, non-monogamous relationships, etc. Discernment Counseling- Some clients are not ready for Couples Therapy, please take a look at my three videos which describe what Discernment Counseling for couples is and how it differs from Couples Therapy. http://www.kelleyhopkinsalvarez.com/DiscernmentCounseling.en.html

Healing Separation:
I meet with partners and we discuss the very structured model of a Healing Separation, which is a structured time apart which can help partners heal a relationship that isn't working. For many, after going through this process, it results in transforming and relaunching the existing relationship – moving it from conflict, emotional distance, lack of trust, and/or lack of intimacy, to a more connected, and loving relationship. For some though, a Healing Separation results in one or all partners moving forward on a journey toward ending the relationship. We meet regularly to check-in and discuss issues that pertain to the separation including co-parenting, time spent together or apart, etc,

I have trained at Harvard University with speakers such as Christopher Germer, a mindfulness and compassion specialist, exploring more in-depth Positive Psychotherapy and Compassion in relationships. I have also trained with Dr. Kristin Neff, on mindfulness and compassion. I was lucky enough to train with Pema Chodron for a meditation retreat at Omega. I have also had the pleasure of attending conferences and training by the creators of two of the most researched couples therapy models, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Dr. Sue Johnson, and with Gottman Couple Therapy founder, Dr. John Gottman. What do you think of email support outside of sessions to help you solidify the changes you seek? How about small homework items to keep you working outside of our sessions? I provide research-based and results-oriented methods in easy to incorporate steps with the follow-up support you need to get unstuck. I value your time and so make every effort to work hard with you and/or your loved ones to bring about change. Feel free to text me to 203-948-0938 to my office cell to set up an initial phone consultation, where you get a chance to ask me questions and for me to describe how I work with clients. Thanks for reading this!

I loved this post! Creating intimacy and joy with your partner is about being curious and the ability to be able to be present, even though there is so much ongoing stress in daily life. It is really deciding to see your partner with new eyes, even though you’ve seen those eyes for decades

As you can imagine, people frequently tell me about their s*x life, not just in my therapy office, but on the street. Just as often, they tell me of their s*x-less life.

Time and time again, I’m told about unintentional celibacy—from the married couple in a rut to the young dater who, frustrated by bad s*x, has chosen to give it up altogether…for now.

I am often asked: is this normal? How often should we be having s*x? Will it ever change? Are we not right for each other? Am I doing it wrong? and more.

Contrary to popular belief, erotic practice doesn’t begin in the bedroom. Eroticism can come from the welcome touch of your lover or it can come from noticing how late summer rain feels on your skin and inviting your lover outside to experience it with you.

It’s a practice of exploration, curiosity, connection—not just physically, but energetically, emotionally, and psychologically. The more we engage in eroticism outside of the bedroom, the more the bedroom becomes simply another location for eroticism to take place. S*x isn’t just something we do; it’s a place we go—inside ourselves or with another.

I saw Dr. Emily Jamea speak at the AAMFT marriage and family therapy conference in Orlando in November. I love her style and this book is perfect for my couples. Really appreciate how she talks about discovering and reconnecting to yourself as primary, when you’re entering couples work: “ Before giving you specific instructions for how to change things in bed, I want to focus on getting you back in touch with core parts of yourself – parts that have been lost but not forgotten”. @

We’ve all heard it many times, but new biomarkers confirm it: new research shows that physical activity can protect your brain from hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease: results show that those who exercised more had lower levels of the biomarkers p-Tau 217 and neurofilament light chain (NfL) - two key indicators captured by the BrainScan test (www.getabrainscan.com).
