The strength of mothers is extraordinary.
It is found in resilience, persistence, and deep care for the next generation.
At Bloom & Grow Lactation Medicine, we witness this strength every day — in mothers learning to feed their babies, navigating postpartum recovery, and building confidence in their parenting journey.
Supporting mothers is essential to maternal and infant health.
Research consistently shows that compassionate, evidence-based support during pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and breastfeeding improves outcomes for both mothers and infants.
Today we celebrate the strength of women everywhere.
Happy International Women’s Day.

‼️All breastfeeding moms are welcome — let’s support and celebrate your incredible journey! 🌸

🪺 The Human Nest— A special place where your love and care help your baby’s brain flourish! 💖

Every time you hold your baby close, respond to their cues, or breastfeed, you’re building their “evolved nest” — a nurturing environment for healthy growth, emotional regulation, and brain development. 🧠💕

👉Join us this Monday at 9:30 AM at Bloom and Grow Lactation, PLLC for the MILC League Breastfeeding Support Group with Dr. Leigh Rhodes Campbell. We’ll explore the science behind the “human nest” and share how your everyday moments make a big difference! 🤱🌿

🪺 The Human Nest
When we think of a nest, we often picture birds carefully building a soft, safe place for their babies.
Human babies have a nest too — but it’s different.
Their nest is created through connection.
Every time you hold your baby close, respond to their cues, or breastfeed, you are helping build the environment their developing brain needs.
Research shows that babies thrive when they experience the elements of what scientists call the “evolved nest.” These include:
• breastfeeding
• touch and skin-to-skin contact
• responsive caregiving
• gentle movement and holding
• supportive community
Together, these experiences help regulate your baby’s nervous system, support emotional development, and promote healthy brain growth.
✨ Your arms, your voice, and your milk help create the nest where your baby’s brain grows.
Join us this Monday at MILC League Breastfeeding Support Group as we explore the science behind the “human nest” and how everyday moments with your baby help build their brain.

Title: Fishy Milk? It’s Oxidation—NOT “High Lipase.”
Ever thawed pumped milk and noticed a fishy, soapy, or metallic smell? You’re not alone—and it’s not because your milk is “bad” or because you “have high lipase.”
Most of the time, stored milk smells different because milk fats react with oxygen during storage (especially freezing + thawing). That process is called fat oxidation—normal chemistry, not something you did wrong.
✨ Join us at MILC Mama this Monday to learn:
• What’s happening (simple, parent-friendly science)
• How to reduce the smell with storage tips
• What to do if baby refuses thawed milk (without overreacting)

Last week we talked about infant CPR. ✨ This Monday at MILC League, we’re talking about:
• What’s actually happening biochemically (in parent-friendly terms)
• Why “high lipase” gets blamed—and why that’s often misleading
• Storage tips to reduce the smell
‼️🍼 Ever thawed pumped milk and thought, “Why does this smell fishy or soapy?” 😳
You’re not alone—and it’s not a sign your milk is “bad,” and it’s not proof you “have high lipase.”
👉Join us on February 23rd to get the right answers with Dr. Campbell.

We had the sweetest learning morning at our MILC League on Monday. 🌹💖 It was great to come together as a community, united by love and care for our little ones. 🍼✨

We learned how to tell gagging from choking 🔍, what to do if severe choking happens 🚨, and when to start infant CPR — with hands-on practice that brought confidence and reassurance. 🧸🙋‍♀️

It’s a reminder that love means caring enough to be prepared for those critical moments.
💓👶 Let’s keep caring, learning, and protecting those we love most. 💕 Leigh Rhodes Campbell
